What do you think of...

I'm calling it the camarobird. It's a GTA with a section of a camaro nose spliced on. I really hate the fact that none of the Firebird noses let any air through, and while the Camaro nose doesn't let much air through, it does help some. On the other hand, I love my popup headlights and don’t want to cut them out of the loop

Nuf talk, on with the photoshop!

#1

This was my first mockup. I didn't bother doing much actual editing because it's on a bumpered nose car and I was looking for a GTA picture; I just couldn't find one and don't have any of my own GTA.

#2

This shows the Camaro nose superimposed on top of the GTA nose, minus camaro headlights.

#3

I cut the GTA nose where it starts to go more or less vertically in this picture. I'm not sure that I like where the camaro fog lights are. The other problem with this is that the firebird turn signals will still be functional, meaning I will have useless lights in the camaro nose section unless I used a trans am type fog light (big) bulb in the hole and aimed it down to act as a big fog light instead of using the short/wide Camaro style light.

#4

No fog lights from either the GTA or the Camaro. It looks weird without them...

#5

I gave up on trying to color blend on this one. Besides, the Camaro nose isn’t centered in this one... I don't think the look is all that great and it would be a major PITA to have the top piece of the GTA nose, then the middle of a camaro nose, with a small piece of the GTA nose on the bottom.

I personally think that the 3rd would be cool if I could figure out what to do with the space where the camaro signals were. If anyone feels bored, feel free to copy the 4th picture and stick lights on it wherever. I could easily reinforce the nose with tons of fiberglass and mount fogs wherever. They have to be rectangles though; round would look really weird with the square headlights.

I know that the noses are the same basic shape and size. If you look on the right side of the 2nd pic where everything's actually lined up, you can see that the ridge that the bottom of the bumper starts at the same point as well. It wouldn't be that hard to blend the that point from the camaro on the front of the nose into the GTA stuff on the side of the nose.

At this point I don’t care about the support behind the bumper; I’m sure that if I can get the nose in one piece, I can figure out some way to mount it.

I will continue to use the GTA fenders and hood. The only part of the nose I want to change will be the front; the sides will be from the GTA

I think it would look sweet with a nice intercooler in there.

well i dont like any of those. I think a better idea would be is to do some woprk on the gta nose. Like cut a hole in the nose and work on that . But i think it will be really though to get something that looks good.

That's the problem. There are no lines that lend themselves to a hole in the nose. Also, even if you did find something that would line up, it couldn't be tall beacuse there's no room for it.

What if I did something like this (minus the camaro logo of course )

It's that or swap to a 91-92 nose since the GTA nose is too big/blank/flat for my liking. I would also like to do something diffrent...

Do you want to something different just to be different or for more airflow through there. I think the major problem you're having with those mockups is that none of them ar straight. Even the camaro bumper curves way to much downward. Find a straighter one to work with.

lol the one with the headlights up looks happy. The ones with them down all look like theyre on drugs. it wouldnt look bad with the fog lights and stuff somewhere there. It just looks too plain with it open like #4. I guess I like #2 the best. Maybe try using some black mesh or something for the grille, that might look ok. Just a suggestion.

as would I. I would have to say, no matter how you cut it, it would only work if there was a fatty 3 core intercooler behind it.

I don't want to be different for the sake of being different, but on the other hand the biggest differences between many of the cars on this board are very subtle (rims, various interior things, lowering, flames/stripes, etc). There are few exceptions to the rule. In all honesty, I'm not so much trying to be different as I am looking for a way of getting the flat GTA nose to look a little bit more exciting without just swapping up to the 91/92 nose.

The off center problem is that I don't have a digital camera, so I can't take my own pictures. The other problem is that it's next to impossible to get dead center on a car unless you actually measure. Also keep in mind that I didn’t want to spend hours digging around on the web for the perfect picture. Do you know how few of you guys post a head on shot of your car? The mockups were meant to give a general impression of what I'm thinking of, not an exact representation (that's why I didn't worry that much about trying to make the camaro piece blend color wise with the GTA nose).

There will be no intercooler due to lack of funds. That and pump gas is icky, I would much rather have a high rpm engine at this point than something with forced induction. That will have to wait another half year or so though.

JDubya18, do you mean #3 and not #2?

I welcome all opinions, after all that's why the thread is titled the way it is. I just prefer if they say why they don’t like it (too blank, too happy, on drugs, etc) rather than just saying ugly

And finally...

There will be something in the hole! It will be my front plate since NJ requires that our cars have both a front and a rear plate. That's kinda another plus, the camaro has the best spot for mounting a front plate IMHO.

As of right now, I count 4 people firmly for and 7 people against (it would be nice if you guys were a little more solid, none of this 'it looks like it is missing all it's teeth stuff' I'm doing reaserch and need numbers people

Anyone else have any comments (preferably on how to improve? I'm leaning toward the 3rd pic right now with the bow tie thing in the middle so I can mount my front plate.

Also, one final thing: the only diffrence between the nose I'm proposing (the third right now) is that it has a smaller cutout for the headlight as it does not have to make room for the Camaro headlights. Everything else is the same. I have a hard time seeing where the scream guy would fit in...

I like the look of #2 because of the fog lights with the RS grille or number 5 with some kind of mesh grille would look cool. Do something with the opening, just my opinion though.

If you are just looking for something different cosmetically, then go for it, be creative, do something original. If you are looking to improve airflow to the radiator, remember that third gens are bottom feeders. They suck air from UNDER the bumper, and the air hits the black air dam and is directed up in front of the radiator. You'd be surprised at how many third gens are missing that piece.... either knocked off, or removed by someone tired of scraping it on driveway approaches. And folks wonder why their car overheats!

Just be aware that simply cutting holes in the front of your car may not be the best solution. Putting openings where they were not designed, by multi million dollar budgets, hoards of engineers, computer drag measuring programs, and wind tunnel testing--- could in fact rob air from under the nose, and be counterproductive to your goals.

They also feed from the front more air cant hurt my rs with out the z28 air box has ducts beside the front license plate that angle up to the radiator.
