how to removed powdercoating!?

Well how do you? I just picked up some 98-00 T/A silver powdercoated rims, they looks great the way they are but i'd really like to strip them. The clear coat won't be a problem with aircraft remover but the powdercoat is hell...Any suggestions?
And yes i have tried aircraft remover for powdercoating.. it works a little but not very well.

Would sandblasting be effective? I would think it would pit the crap out of it though..

Thanks,

Brendan

If you use a different media than sand it might not be such a problem. silica sand, aluminum, walnut shells, plastic, etc.

Powder coat is tough though

Keep trying the aircraft remover. Leave it on for about 30 minutes and it should be loose enough to scrape off. I have done this several times without any problem. Maybe your powdercoating has been on a long time???

Actually i never tried leaving it on for more than about 10minutes, i'll give that a try!. The first wheels i tried it on were my old 5 spoke 16x8 RS wheels i had from my 91RS. The powdercoat wouldn't come off for the life of me. I just got some 98-00 TA rims for my IROC and i'm wanting the clearcoat and the paint off so i can polish the bare aluminum.

Thanks for the tips.

Brendan
