Striping a wheel of chrome finish.
I have a chance to pick up some rims in decent shape expect for the finish. I had planned on having them powdercoated anyway, and they are chrome. The chrome is rusted in a few spots and chipped in others. What is the best way to get it down to the bare aluminum so that I can paint it the desired color? thanks fellas

I strip chome parts everyday.
Put em in a big Vat of solution and crank up the 440v and peal the chrome right off. Then I strip the nickle ina diff vat.
Deff have a shop do it for you. You will spend way to much time if you try and beadblast it off.

What about the reverse?
I think I saw these once chromed and would love to do mine. Is it possible and where do I go or send them to? How much? If I do chrome them what about the caps? they can't be chromed so it htere an alternative that will look good?
And this may sound dumb but what exactley is powdercoating? How doesit look?

Any chrome shop can dip them for you. The caaps can be done with a spray chrome prosess. It would be just like putting chrome on the grill of a newer truck.

The powder coating outfit here quoted me 110 a wheel to strip then and 55 a for powdercoatings. So **** that. I can get a better set of wheels for cheaper.

I don't work at a shop so I cant say for sure. All I can say is I know it can be done. I've seen other factory rims done and they had plastic caps. The only way I know of to chrome plastic is to spray it on. Call a local shop they should be able to give you a good est.
