shiny stock formula 16's

ok gentlemen, may the experts reply with quickness...I am about to refinish my rims and want to make sure that this method will work.
Take off one rim at a time and mask off the tire and inside painted grey area with masking tape, and apply a genorous coat of aircraft remover to get rid of clearcoating on rims. let sit for an hour or so, then scrape off and clean with rag. then use 600 grit sandpaper to buff out the rims, then use 1500 grit to polish to a mirror shine. each rim will take a couple of hours to do. then after I do all of the above, i will apply some mothers polish to finish it off. what do yall think? is there a better way or am i going a pretty good route. someone suggested I do this so I will try it. input will be greatly appreciated.
