Modded cars, how do you insure them?
If you have a lot of mods done to your car, and it is obviously worth more than blue book, do you do anything special, or have special insurence for it?
I remeber when my stereo system was stolen, the company would not cover it, because they said and modification, like that, would need a additional underwriter (?)
Of, course, they don't tell you that up front.
So, do you do this, does it increase the rate a lot,
or, do you go through a specialty company, like the ones for classic cars,
or, do you just bite the bullet, and get regular coverage?

Well first you need to realize that insurance companies are meant to screw you over by any means necessary. Then you should look into a specialty insurance company, like the ones for classic cars.

You should have bantered with your agent and tried to convince them that it was. If you go for a new ins. angent, make sure that everything inside your car is covered.

Have your car appraised and then insure it for that value...it's the only way to save your *** if something bad happens.

appraisal has to be certified by your chosen company as well. check with various companies, explain to them what you think it's worth and go from there. unless your really up there like i was with my car many won't need an appraisal. personally though i would get an appraisal on anything i were to insure over blue book example so that your not paying out of pocket. loosing 1-2,000 isnt bad. loosing 20-30,000+ that's bad.
i will tell you this much though you'll have a very hard time owning a thirdgen and trying to get it insured over $25,000 without alot of proof which requires more then receipts and documents.

what would you pay a month after appraisal, more or less, since the value would go up? and isnt appraisal usually only beneficial to those with very nice completely stock cars with low miles? my car has a new motor, trans, jongbloed hood, and new paint soon. which altogether, costed about 5k-6k, my car has 145k miles and i bought it stock for 1600. all this money i spent and time i put in would be only worth blue book if someone smacked up my car good, and i'd be in complete loss. would appraisal be good to get on my car? would they just look at it and laugh? thanks
if the guy was certified run to the insurance company and push it off a cliff.
buy two and be happy!

as far as the above the reason is essential, custom insurance usually drops the rates because you must have at least one additional permanent daily driver vehicle as well. find out the value of your car, if you have double the value in aftermarket parts it would be a good idea to have it looked at. as far as looking at it and laughing only you would know that, it has happened before yes so you should be absolutely honest.

I'd like to see what companies people are running for later thirdgens, blue book on mine is i belive 2k and i am sitting right around 15k invested right now, but the companies i have found here and there ie hagerty and some other top name specailty companies wont insure anything past 84 or 85 and i have a 91
Keep in mind most companies require the car has to be stored, or garaged, put a limit on your mileage yearly and i believe most have a reapraaisel every few years. THis would be fine for me since the car is not a daily driver it is stored and i dont put very many miles on it yearly
