How do I clean the inside of the tail light lense?

Here's the situation..... I had a bulb explode inside the passenger side tail light. I didn't think much of it; I shook out the pieces of broken bulb and replaced it. I now realize that the bulb must have put out a bit of smoke because the inside of the tail light is blackened with what I guess is soot? I can't seem to find anything to disolve this soot. Any ideas? I tried taking a rag and poking it through with a dowel rod but I'm not able to get into the grooves.

Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Brian

I dunno about the firebird tails, but the camaro ones are seperable. If not you can always cut them apart and glue it back together.

The outside lens on my 86 separated (just from the top and sides, not bottom) and got dust on the inside, so it was alot darker that the other light. I blew it out with an air compressor, wiped the inside of the lens with a towel, and I siliconed it back together. Looks good as new, and it was a free fix.

if you can find some body sealer, it works good to put them back together... its kinda like rtv.. they use it at the dealer... its black and real gooey sticky... Or like me I used a black hot glue stick to put mine back together after I had the inside re-chromed...

Mine were pretty dusty, went to Walmart and found a soft bottle brush, round and about 1 1/2 inch diameter. Cheap. Use some dishwashing liquid/water solution in the lights and they clean right up.
