Would you have bought me?
Alright fellas, since this is the appearance forum.. I would like to know if you guys would have bought this car.. it looks like this :
Things wrong on the exterior :
Large Dent on passenger side rear quarter where tire blew out, also missing bottom ground effect as well when tire blew out.
Dents on bottm rear of driver door, and also on passenger front fender to boot. Front GFX is ripped in corner on passenger side as well as scuffed up pretty badly.
Only other cosmetic problems exterior wise were rusty t-top and trunk trim, and 1 fog light not there, as well as exhaust being hung with a coat hanger on the passenger side.
Drivetrain wise, the tranny is strong, it runs, but not well.. Apparently there is a bent rod, or something and it makes a hellova noise Tack Tack Tack Tack...
Interior Wise... well Its got a rip or two in driver seat, the Driver window wouldnt go down, the rear hatch release would work, the power locks didnt work, underhood lamp not functioning, dome lamp not functioning, and rear view mirror missing, (ripped out by her ex boyfriend) Dash is cracked too.
And now it looks like this :
All I did was wet sand the entire car, polish up with 3M finishing-It compound, and then wax by hand using Mothers California Gold Carnuba wax, removing with a 6 inch orbital buffer.
As for the mechanical issues / interior issues
replaced 2 fuses, this fixed the Door locks, trunk release, dome light, (replaced bulb too) and under hood lamp. re-attached a rear view mirror mount, (still need to find a powered rear view mirror) It also fixed the STOCK radio, which works now, and even Plays tapes!
As for the driver window, I simply removed the center console top trim, and plugged the switch in.
So now, all thats left to get a decent driver out of her is the motor work, and a rear quarter ground effect piece.
Heres the million dollar question....
would you have paid 500.00 for that?
cause I did.
Thanks for your input fellas and ladies.

I def would have paid $500 for that considering most of the things wrong we're small fixes. There is old camaro bodies around here with no engine or tranny that the people want $1000 for and they dont even look as good as that one
Nice work on cleaning it up. Looks good

Thanks for all the positive comments.. I figured i couldnt go too wrong by picking it up for that price. Ive been working on it in my spare time and getting it looking simi-decent.. evidently the paint wasnt in that great of shape to begin with because it was a "econo-Paint" paint job.. that was sprayed over the factory one.. but its coming along I think.
I do have the other factory wheel for it too, it just has a blown hole in the tire..
Ill try to keep yall updated with my progress on the car.
Ive already got black seat covers on the front seats too, and this saturday im going junk yarding hoping to find the rest of the stuff for the car.. that I need appearance wise..
wish me luck!
main reason I bought it was so i can fix it up, turn it around and sell it and get enough money to get a convertable 3rd gen 90-92.. in need of love and help.
If ya wanna see everything with a lot more photos of her, heres my cardomain that I set up for it.

you cant lose on it. the wheels alone are worth some cash and you could always part it out and make some money if you had to. Definately a deal.

thanks guys.. I figured i could if i had to part it out and get more for it than what i paid for it. but Im hoping to find a motor, or repair the one in it... and simply use it as a driver until I decide to sell her and buy a convertible 3rd gen 90-92. I really want one and have for about 5 years now, so I hope to find one soon...
Ill post more pics soon hopefully of it this weekend.

That's sad. Poor bastard was too lazy to perform even basic upkeep on the car, and sold for 500 what he/she could have at least received three times as much for, depending on how well it was maintained.
Oh well. Their foolishness is your gain.

Unfortunately most people who own these cars arent like us, they just use them to get from point a to point b.

I had been telling her to let me know when she wanted to sell it for a while though, so i guess my persistance paid off finally. I think more than anything else i was just lucky, nothing less, nothing more.

Very nice progress! I've been looking for a 3rd gen to throw a rebuilt 305 into since I have two nice condition blocks in my garage (to nice to throw away, but since they're 305's they aren't worth selling either). I hope mine works out as nice as yours when I find it!

Nice find! I only paid 500 for mine, but thats a special case. What junkyards do you hit? Would think your awfully close to Brocks and I know he buys up alot of the third gen stuff.

Good as a parts yard, but other than that, anything new is overpriced, and he's got a bunch of goons there that i just dont know how much they know. or rather, i wouldnt trust them to work on my cars.
Yea, I go to AAA , U-pick U-Pull, Arnolds, etc.. there are a lot of good ones around, just gotta go find them.
In fact im going this saturday morning!

Thats a great deal. I found mine for 3000 bucks and I was so in love that I dished out the money. However I sold my 79ta for 6000 so I wasnt hurt. It was a pro/am though. Emphasis on WAS. Its going up to a knight rider conversion.
Anyways I've seen some crap with women driving the camaros. Its never taken care of and it sound like crap. Whats going on, at least put the oil in the car.
Now there are ladies that take pride in what they ride (pun intended) and polish and wax and make 'em like new (pun sooo intended).

Thanks guys..
this weekend i went junk yarding, got the rear view mirror, and radio bezel, and re-painted the shifter plate black. So now everything interior wise looks good, cept the headliner, which is hanging a bit.. But that is another project for another day. Ive also replaced the power window motor on the driver side, and the power lock motor on the passenger side.
been a bit busy this weekend
here's another side note..
while junk yarding, I went by a local F-body yard, called Brocks Camaro and Firebird. I found there, what I wanted the most. a CONVERTABLE. for sale. Its an 88 with a bad top, shot interior for the most part, middle back spoiler missing, engine was a TBI, but had an Edlebrock manifold conversion and a holly carb conversion. Ac car, but ac removed and the dryer just sitting there. *** only knows what the condition of the wiring would be.
He said he had the spoiler piece, and the new Top, but just hadnt put them on it yet.. said 2000.00 for it..
I was like ok, thats a bit high for the condition it was in. Besides, I am broke, So I passed.
That night, I found out he paid $75.00 for the whole car and about 400.00 for the top and spoiler piece.
so i was a bit pissed.
I'd of gave him 1000.00 for her.

I almost bought one that was very similar, a teal 92 L03/A4 only thing missing was a rearend and wheels (both of which I already had) for $400. But after we found out the tranny was shot the deal was changed to $100 and one of my Uncles decided he wanted to built it into a drift car. After a new battery and alternator, a 10bolt rearend, and a set of wheels it was driveable, but tranny needs to be replaced (as well as the windshield, small cracks) for it to be reliable and legal for daily driving. Car has suspension too (tokiko's and drop springs). Kinda fun to take one from a haphazzard shape and make it functional.
