Valve stems chrome or black?
Valve stems chrome or black?
I've got a nice set of ROH ZS wheels polished. When I first got these I ordered them mounted/balance shipped to me and they had the chrome valve stems. So today I have to buy new tires and when I get the car back the put the plain black rubber valve stems in. I didn't say anything cuz it took soo long and I was ready to go eat lunch but these things just seem to stick out like a sore thumb to me. Should I have them put the chrome ones back in? I got to go back later on to get an alignmnet after I put new struts and strut tower bearings in. They can change the valve stems without taking the tire off the rim right?
Or am I just being to **** about this?

wrong they have to dismount the tire to replace the valve stems but if you're not happy with them i would definitly make them do it. The chrome ones sound like they would look a ton better to me anyways.

if you want chrome, by all means go back and have them put chrome ones in. They should be able to do it without rebalancing the rim (if they're experienced) but they will have to break the seal on the front face of the tire. It would've been nice if they asked you if you wanted to keep the chrome ones since they came in with them, but you really need to tell them if you want anything special.

ok ive never heard of actual chrome valve stems...just the chrome part that goes over top of the stem...not the cap its like a tube i have some on my car.
but yes if there is such a thing as chorome valve stems completely they need to dismount the top bead of the tire.

Oh... so is it just a sleeve that fits over the rubber stem? I've seem them sold as chrome stems before and my old ones did have a rubber base where they came through the rim but the rest was chrome. And I just washed the car and just keep lookn at the rims and for something so small they just dont look quite right anymore.

they are just a cover, most ricers stores have them. all u do is unsrew the cap, slide the sleeve over the stem, screw the cap back on. or if u want, have them put the bolted down valves stems in, they usually are used for truck tries but they come in silver so they prob blend in better

Wrong. They dont have to dismount the tire if they have a good machine. I do this everyday, if its a low profile tire then yes u might have to dismount it, but with the machine I use at work I dont have to dismount the tire to replace the stem.

I used to work at Sears and when a car came in with nice rims, we'd just put chrome ones on automatically. Or if chrome came out, we put chrome back in.
If you do wind up going back, tell them you want them rebalanced. They could probably do it without balancing them, but thats pretty lazy. They should have known to put chrome ones in in the first place.

It may not weigh much more, but its impossible for them to not way any more at all. I'm just picky and if someone was breaking down my tires, I'd want them to be rebalanced.

i forgot that there are two different types of "chrome" valve stems. There are the two- piece ones that screw together which require breaking at least the outer bead of the tire to install. Then there's the sleeve style which is probably more common. It sounds like that's what you had before, so you should be able to get some sleeves to put on your existing rubber stems and not have to worry about bringing your car back in to swap stems.
Thanks for the input guys. I found some sleeves for $3 and put them on. They look pretty close to what I had, though not exact. That sure beets trying to get back over there and take that much time just for stems.
