Depends on what caused the spot as to what would need to be done. If it is just simple waterspots that were not taken care of after a washing and then waxed over stripping the wax works ok. I have water spots from acid rain on mine. took the wax off using a surface prep, and took some polish to try and take them out.. apparently acid rain actually eats into the paint in which case i have to color sand the car down, and then lay a fresh coat and then some clears... basically a paint job. stupid acid rain... ruins a car's finish pretty good

Everyone will have their own unique opinion on this but here's is what I would do:
Buffing wheel on a drill with a paint cleaner. Then hit it with a polish. Then follow it with a wax. After that it's regular washings with a wax bi-annually (California weather and all).
I was trying to avoid a product plug but there is one I use specifically:
Meguiar's

Don't put it on a drill!!! use a buffer. Drills spin to fast and can cause swirls and actually eat through your clear coat if you press hard enough.

I agree avoid the drill.. even some heavy duty buffers can spin to fast creating a haze in the finish because it actually will heat the finish up so much it will burn it. not a good deal...

oh yea. and i will agree however that the mequires products kick but. I use their car wash, waxes, polishes and all.. very nice.. and it works better than any of the other ones i have tried as far as beading water, and not attracting every spec of dust out there (and since you have black paint like i do you do notice dust more often on black than other colors.)

Ok I heard some bad thing's about the buffing wheel's that they leave swirl marks but I do not have the armstregth to scrub for hours eather . If I buy one what RPM should I be looking for and what product to use to get the spots out. I think that acid rain may be the culprut hear and I will need a new paint job but that the last thing to be done on my ride . I just want it to look the best it can for now .Thanks for the imput

well you can get some fine cut rubbing compound after taking the wax off and that should get the majority of it. After that using a cleaner wax works very well to get rid of any little specks the rubbing cound might not have gotten. then i use the regualr high grade wax. all are meguires products. So far it seems to work pretty well and the only really noticable are in it is the roof because it hits the light jsut right at standing level.
As far as buffers, you can buy ones for automotive at walmart or whatever. ussually a decent 1200 - 1500 rpms is good. and ones the moves like an orbital sander works wonders (the ones for automotive applications at walmart ussually do this).
Also.. you might just want to rub out the car by hand at least once.. just to build up your stamina.. since stamina is good for so many other things too lol
(I personally wash, polish and wax the car all by hand except for the occasion where i put a light coat of wax before i go to an event. then and only then do i use the buffer to buff wax on and wax off..)

yea. i have the black too.. it can be a total pain in the butt. Nut yes, if you do one part you should do the whole car to keep it uniform. I would get the fine cut.. I think it is like 1000 to 1200 grit. Ones it is on the car will be slightly dull.. and you will have to do some if it by hand so that you reach every single area, else you can end up with a spot a slight color off in the missed spots. At least in my experience.
Also be careful if you are doing this on original black paint from CA.. that water based paint canb be rubbed off pretty easy if you are not careful lol.. if it was done at the other plant and had the good paint, then it will be fine.. The biggest thing is to not rub in one spot to long. When i do it by buffer i would usually use an even speed straight line method.. and then overlap the edges making sure you get it all...
Now even though it is a little dull, the cleaner wax will then clean out all the rest of the surface and should give it a shine.. then i wait for about 30 minutes after i take that wax off and then put on the Premium Meguirs wax. after that it leaves a nice shine.. I have to do it to my car again and will take a picture.. even thought i have to repaint the hood for sure (the previous owner took a green brillow pad or something. i dunno... it has pretty good swirl marks...

Cool I would love to see a photo I am a sucker for black f-bodys. The paint job was done by macco 10 years ago and they did a real nice job it look't 12 feet deep . But I blew the tranny and the car was in my parents gerage . My dad made me move it out after afew years , and when it snowed he would take the snow blower and pile the snow and salt on top an and tell me to get rid of that pice of crapp . Now that I have it runnnig agian 7 years later & it got it gerage privliges back lol . So I think I will try the fine cut stuff by hand save some loot . Meguiar's make the wax cleaner or paint cleaner or is this the same.

I think they are pretty much the same.. I looked and actually my polish is a 3M product that my father was using on his truck (semi). Works well when done right. I do have a car domain thing. i think i have a picture of it there. that was 2 days after i got it home from buying it. Paint is starting to crack and i found the passenger door has filler in it which has made me unhappy.. but still overall it looks good for a 22 year old car lol..

that is still in construction lol.. not alot done for mods other than a new engine and tranny now.. the original one lasted another 10kmi before the cam took a bottom of a lifter off. And i just replaced the tranny due to losing every gear but first. Will post another pic once i have it all waxed up

here is a shot from another angle..
oh yea. And those are the stock rims on the car. I just removed the ungodly original Gold paint, masked it all off. And Painted them black. I then reverse masked them and took a polishing wheel to the area's that were originally polished and came up with that.. I think it looks pretty decent on the car lol

This is a funny story one time I spent all day cleaning up my ride and then went to a friends house .We went out for a ride in his jeep . When I retuned my car was coverd in dust . I was like what the hell , then I seen his dad putting the leaf blower away . It was like july and he had a dirt driveway

lol. Yea, There is not alot of dust onit.. nicely enough the mequires wax seems to repel it or something lol. The z28 (it's behind the red burly there) only lasted about 10 hours before it was covered in dust.

i use a makita buffer with adjustable speed i buff the compound at 3000 and a wool cut pad and the swirl remover at 1000-1200..with a blck foam pad. sweet shine not a single mark left behind. The swirl remover you can do by hand also.
