Bullit gas cap

This is a gas cap from a 98-04 bullit Mustang. As you can see this thing fits perfectly with some modifications. I opted to use a two part epoxy to glue it in place. Notice how flush it is with the body

Those things look awsome from close up, but from far away it looks like someone forgot to paint that part of the car

It is actually metal or plastic?

Would look sweet if it was painted black.

Nice job. Creative.

that fits really good! The only thing I'd do differently would be to rig up a mount that I could bolt it to instead of glueing it into position.

I've tried to come up with a different method but that involved drilling holes which i didn't want to do.

You guys are probably gonna laugh at me on how I did this. It's pretty basic. First of all, nothing is bolted on. The mounting flange on the unit has some tabs on the back side of it that I ground down with a grinder. The 6 bolt heads were shaved off and glued in place. Then I cut the lip off of the plastic filler neck sleeve so that the frame would fit more flush to the body. Then I used a 2 part Permatex epoxy and glued it in place and voila!!! You can't even tell it was all glued in place. It looks bolted in. It was very easy to do. I even yanked on the whole thing to make sure it doesn't fall off. That's some strong epoxy.

I paid $55 for it on ebay but you can brave yourself to a ford dealership and pay around $80 for one.

Re: Bullit gas cap

And for $50, you can buy a brand new, aftermarket one for the 88+ C/K trucks, at Pep Boys.

Re: Bullit gas cap

Yeah the truck one "fits"... but it sounds like it requires sanding and beveling and bending to fit good. The stang part seems like it is a nice fit from the get go, just requiring alittle inginuity to mount.

I think either one looks kinda cool. Im not sure Ide do that to mine, just because I dont think it'd run with the theme I go for. But its still definetly neat.

Re: Bullit gas cap

Wow, I just realized I did this over 3 years ago. The epoxy is still holding quite nicely. I'm thinking about painting it black and leaving the bolts silver kinda like what camarozz383 did.

Re: Bullit gas cap

hey guys, if you buy the gas cap for the trucks you will need to do a little bending, sanding and beveling, the gas door opening on our cars are 6-3/8" that's the outside diameter, but on the out side edge the new aluminum gas cap the edge is square, so when you try to put it in the opening it will stick out from the side of your car, also on our cars the quarter panel is rounded, and the gas caps are usually straight, so if you force the gas cap on with the bolts you will cause your quarter panel to bend, its not that hard to do, I'm sure any of you can do it, just size it up first, with people like pwdbychevy and others on here doing cool mods all the time you wont have to worry, there's always help, if there's any thing else you need to know just ask.
