Can I remove the door mouldings myself easily?

For those who have removed your door mouldings, what did you need to use? Did you just scrape them off with a putty knife or something? I really like the way the cars look with out them. I never really noticed people were doing it until it was pointed out to me. thanks a lot.

yea you should be able to remove them rather easily. there will probably be some glue left over. scrap it off with a putty knife and maybe some gas/laqueor thinner?

you might wanna re-consider that...

Your car has original paint right?

You pull off the moldings and your gonna wish you didnt its gonna be a lot brighter of a color under there and then you will have a bright silver stripe down the side.

well, considering the dents in my doors i was going to repaint them anyways. are you sure it will leave the mark? also, i doubt the paint is original. especially since the mouldings are black and the body is grey. they should be the same. and i know a few parts were repainted. what should i do?

well having seen your car the paint definently didnt look new...it could have been original paint...i mean that color and the stripes over the gfx unless they did a good taping job or put new ones on...depends how new some of the stuff is on ur car.

Only way to tell start to pull off a very small section and glance under it

I wouldnt bother unless ur actually gonna be painting the car soon.

Back to your question you can easily remove the moldings with some fishing line or even dental floss. You just "saw" the molding off.

Then use something like 3M adhesive remover or even Goo Gone to get rid of the adhesive. That's the PITA part.

if you look closely you can tell the stripes were replaced where they overlap on the black stripe but dont quite touch each other on the silver stripe, lol. plus, i worked in a paint shop over summer, and the moldings were always removed. i just like how the car looks without them so much. i guess i will move away a small piece, like from the fender, and just see the paint difference.
