how to prep/paint engine and heads..
I want to paint my motor and heads gloss black. What do I do to prep them and what kind of paint should I use? Do I primer?

When we did my engine, we just prepped it with some final clean to remove all the oil and grease, then shot it with a couple coats of high build primer, then 2 coats of base and 2 of clear. has held up great so far

When I paint my engines, I just make sure that the block is clean of any oil. I actually paint it before I do any machining, then re paint it when I'm done. The "engine paint" that comes in a spray can works great. For one of my engnines, I used the stock GM blue, and did it this way. I was told that the paint would fade if I were to spray it first, but it didn't. Just some chips. So that's the only reason that I repainted it.
