polishing question...

recently i picked up a set of GTA lace style rims off of a 86 TA for 100 bucks. One problem is they are weather tarnish from sitting in the rain and elements for so long.

Wondering if someone knew of a way to remove this with out having to sand the rims down and everything to get that nice polished look?

I got 2 done my sanding and what not, to remove the defects, the other 2 are fine and have no clear coat on them.

Any ideas?

Hmm..I know JUST what you need...."Aircraft remover" go to wal-mart and pay about $1 per can, I'd say you would need around 3 cans.

P.S DO NOT GET THAT STUFF ON YOUR SKIN OR TIRES!

Anyone got suggestions on this, if not for the tarnish i would be able to just polish them.

they got clear its there, trust me, i just did mine, if u want ill show u my rims.

i remvoed the clear with paint/gasket remover(stuff is nasty, burns u if it gets on ur skin) then i use #00, #000, #0000 steel wool and if there was a spot that wouldnt come out, i used a red scotch brite pad lightly, then mothers polish

edit heres the pic of my rim before and done

Well the others which are polished appeared to have no clear on them, most of the stuff i could use a corse steel wool and scratch out the tarnish and hit with a polish, working up to finer wool of course.

but i double check it, but doing a test on one of the unpolished rims i could hit a spot and the aluminium would shine where untarnshied. There is no pitting or anything, just weather stains.

wow thats pretty nice, good job kyles88bird . Im actually in the process of polishing up some cragars for my regal. But i had to do a little more to get them polished since they had a nice layer of rust on them. I'll see if i get some pics. I bought a wheel that removes rust ( no not a wire wheel) and some polishing wheels
