Should I Get New Wheels, or Stay Stock??

OK guys i have been thinking about putting new wheels on my car in the summer. I have no clue if i'll do it, because i don't know if any wheels would look better than the stockers, while still being affordable. The thought has crossed my mind to do Chrome Irocs or Chrome C6's, but then i came to the conclusion that chrome wheels would look out of place on my car. I have been suggest Competition Grey C6's, and i have been considering Some Cragar/Torq Thrust lookalikes (17x8) offa ebay ($470+ s/h). Usamuscle has very similar torq thrust lookalikes on his black/red heritage adn they look damn good. Looking for some opinions on what, if any, aftermarket wheels would look good. And I know firehawks would probably look the best but i dont know if i could ever afford them, especially before they discontinue them....

My stock 92 Z28 Wheels:

I think you need to keep that car as close to original appearance since it's a Heritage edition.

That's just me though and doesn't say anything about what you can do under the hood.

Yea i know, thats always been the plan for my car. I really don't want to do anything major under the hood. Id be happy if my car ever hit 200bhp. And everything that i plan to do is like OEM appearing mods... and like i said, i'm not even sure if i will get wheels because i like my stock ones so much. Its just that when you dont drive your car all winter you get so anxious to do stuff to it you consider everything!!!

With original wheels that look that good, I wouldn't worry about aftermarket ones. I'd say your car looks pretty good with the stockers, the only wheels that I think would make that big of an improvement would be the Firehawks.

Polish the stock 91-92 ones or have them chromed. Trust me they'll look great. I'm working on a set right now.

I thought candies' chromed 91-92s look amazing but it would be a few hundred to get them chromed .

By polishing, do you mean that thing where i stripe the clearcoat off them??IF so, I am kinda against that because during the spring/summer i drive my camaro like everyday even if its raining outside. I dont really want to deal with the mess that will cause on unclearcoated rims....

you can always clearcoat them again after you polish them

Personally stock rims with red accents instead of white polished would look great. Red would give a good accent to the red stripes. Along with red calipers.

I mean not only stripping the clearcoat off each wheel but also sanding each wheel starting with about 120 grit sandpaper and then working up to 400-500 grit. Then using the same method as found in the wheel polishing thread at the top of the auto detailing and appearance section (the same section were in) to seal them. The finished product will look almost mirror-like, be smooth as glass, have cost you under $50 for the materials, and stand up to the effects of weather quite well. Besides I've never seen a dirty stock wheel outshine a dirty polished wheel. The only downside is that it is time consuming and that if you lack a spare set of wheels you'll be forced to complete them one wheel at a time. Go for it though! It will really make a 91-92 camaro stand out.

If you have the money. I would get R15s with colored inserts. And then keep your stock wheels and store em away and save them for later on. My 91 Z has only 16k miles. I dont care. I switched with some R15s. There bigger, wider and have a nice deep dish to set the car off nice. I still kept my stock wheels of course and there stacked up in my attic for later on.

Ideally, i would love to get some R15s....however price is a major issue. To add to that is the fact that they are doing 1 last production run, which basically says to me "you need to get over $1000 before we stop making them in the near future". If they're still availible in the summer i may very well buy them if i can afford them, but if not i would still think about some of the other options...

True they said that back 1 year ago when i bought them that this will be there last time selling this style. I said to myself i needed to rush and buy them. One year later there still selling them If you cant afford it i think the polish look on the 91-92 Rims are awesome.

my rims are polished, and I like them.. however I'd still like to upgrade to 18" at some point in the near future. For me its either rims or motor.. which one first..?

Just get the regular r-15's if you can only 800 paint them white later or just leave them.

I payed mine over 900 a year ago... Man ppl made it sound like there was running out of them. So i had to buy them right away. A year later there still around and are cheaper! Is the 800 included with painted inserts? Or just the non painted ones?

What if you changed the white paint on your current rims to red? My friend had a camaro with the heritage paint scheme (lousy paint job, but cool style) and red crosslace rims and i think it looked awesome. unfotunately the lighting sucks, but here are a couple pics:

Yea i really liked how the R15's looked with red windows. I like my stock wheels too much to paint them red though.

If i email the guy at ronal will he give me a good answer as to when they will stop producing them or will he give me the biased "buy now blah blah blah" kinda thing?

if you end up buying new wheels keep the stock ones too. i still have my stock wheels just so i can say it's original. wheels are easy to put back on

and i think that you should do some BMW wheels like in that other thread on here. the BMW 740 wheels. i think i just might have to look into those when it comes time to buy rims for my Iroc

i would get those torque thrust look alike wheels. i mean you can always throw those stock ones back on every now and then but the aftermarket wheels will make it look alot better. but if you keep the stock wheels i would polish them and paint the white red, that would look nice.

i called him a day before i ordered the wheels to find out how long I had, he said untill the 14th, but now I'm seeing on here that it's been extended until the end of the month. So can't really give a good answer about the blah blah blah part...
