My plan for making the bird light up... (all comments welcome)

I've got a new centerpiece coming in the mail, so I'm going to either chip away bit by bit like (I think Firebretha?) did, or more likely strip the whole thing down to clear plastic, then hit it with a coat of red tint spray (if such a thing exists in hobby stores), or just coat the inside with a red gel (the transparencies they use in spotlights). Then, I'm going to use a stencil I made a while ago to paint the outside a nice glossy black and clearcoat with the Firebird logo intact and red. Then, mount a lightbulb behind it, throw it on the car, voila.

Any input?

The stencil idea sounds like a great idea to me. I have an extra center piece that I want to do the same with. Let me know how it works out, and try to post pics with instructions. Thanks.

My stencil is actually the 4th gen logo, it's a slightly wider bird, but I think it looks bad@ss. To make it, I went ot a pontiac dealer, walked up to the information booth, grabbed one of the calendar/promotional brochures (black with a spiral binding and a Firebird embossed on the front), and then walked out. I just cut the cover off and used an exacto knife to cut the lined around the edges. I stenciled the top of my plenum with it (2.8, so it's wide enough to look good), and tried my floormats,. That didn't work, but the stencil is still good. I"ll let you know in a few weeks, as I'm planning on trying this over my spring break.

If you want a gel, you could go to a sign shop and they could probably make you one.

Yeah,or a craft store, or go visit my old High School drama club, and duck into the storage cage for a few minutes when noone's looking.
