Priming

Does anyone know of good sites or books of how to prime your car yourself. My car is in dire need of a paintjob but I want to save as much money as I can. So I want to prime it myself and take it to Maaco. Thanks.

The thing that really makes a good paint job stand out, is how straight the body is. For it to be straight, you need to have some experience. Anyone can make a car shiny, but only the best can make them straight.

What color is it now? What color do you want to paint it? Who is going to be doing the priming? What matirials,(spray can, or mixing, and spray gun) are you going to use? I have alot of other ?s, but to start, this should do.

That's what I'm asking. The color it is now, is mostly red, with a black primed drivers side fender, some primer on the quarter panels, and soon to be a metallic silver passenger fender and door. I basically know what I have to do, but I would like a step by step manual or something, so I can get the whole car primed black. I hope to get the car painted either black, red, or silver. I plan to use a spray can primer with one of those cheap spray can gun holders.

Beware of the Maaco paint if you prime it yourself. Others have said that Maaco won't warranty the paint adhesion if you primed it yourself. It could cost more in the end. I would take it to a better shop than Maaco. Try finding a decent body shop and tell them what kind of finish you want and they can get you something in every price range. The difference is, you will have a professional painting your car at a body shop even if you want a low cost paint job. Maaco will give you garbage regardless of what you pay!
