Removing crappy window tint, a question.

Just got a new(er) car today. Its a 91 Z. The car is awsome except that it has this really ugly, cheap, purpulish tint on the windows and a strip on the top of the winsheild and although it is not bubbling it is starting to peel around the edges. So can I just peel this stuff off and use a razor blade to remove any stuck pieces or is there a trick to get this stuff off my car? Thanks.

It's purple because it was once black. Cheap tint usually does this over time and sunwear.

My 3 year old black rear window tint just peeled off. However, that is the easy part.

The tint leaves a relatively thick adhesive on the glass once the actual "tint" is removed. This adhesive is the pain in the a$$ to remove. I tried "tint off", even full strength amonia with negative results. Know what worked? Gasoline! Just make sure you cover up your interior and wash the rear hatch after you're done so the smell doesn't stay in the car. But I assure you it will not.
Good luck. Hope you have about 4 hours and a lot of elbow grease to waste.

Ryde brought up a good point. It is a pain in the a$$ to remove the old adhesive. They will charge you an arm and a leg probably

I had the same problem with my '87 Trans Am.
What I did was drench the window with Windex (I think) and then, while it was still wet, cover it up with saran wrap. Let it set for at least a couple of hours, preferably over night. (The stronger the stuff, the less time you have to wait.)
Then just remove the saran wrap and the tint should just fall right off. You might want to have a razorblade ready in case it didn’t work all too well.
In any case, it will be much easier to scrape the tint off. Remember to cover the interior/trunk with newspapers so you won’t get dripping Windex all over the place or, scraps of tint…
Good Luck!

you can try to remove it with paint thinner.but be careful on not letting it hit the door panels or seat cause it might fade the color....but im certain that thinner and a razor will do the trick.....not lacquer..the strong one
