I had an L-88 on my '72 Camaro, and I really did not like it. The whole time I had it, I was wishing it was a Cowl. The lines just don't look right unless it is on a vette. But, I also don't like the big block hoods or the turbo style hoods. You just can't beat a nice Cowl Induction hood for good looks. This is just my opinion...everyone has their own. Here is what a nice cowl looks like on my car. Note how the body lines all match up along the hood and nose. An L-88 won't do that because they don't have a center body line going down them.

typical response. alot of the guys on this board just critize other peoples rides anyway..makes them feel big. IF A GUY WANTS TO PAINT HIS CAR PONY PECKER PINK WITH MUDFLAPS,LOUVERS AND A DISCO BALL INSIDE, SO BE IT. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY IT DOESNT LOOK RIGHT..CAUSE ITS HIS CAR.

GO WITH A COWL HOOD..BE A CONFORMIST..DONT THINK FOR YOURSELF..DO WHAT EVERONE ELSE DOES..AND MOST IMPORTANT, LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS THINK LOOKS RIGHT.

I wasn't criticizing anyone. Do what you want to do with your car. I was just stating a fact. Most people have cowl hoods for an obvious reason. THEY LOOK GOOD!!! I said that I personally do not like any of the other hoods...that is MY opinion. Do what you want with your car.

Why don't you be realy differant and make a clear plexyglass hood for the car.....lol.

Seriously, CarNDrvr is right.... the reason everyone else has a cowl hood is because they look the best. The turbo hoods make you think the car is getto. The big block hoods look ok in my opinion but I would not buy one. The SS hoods look alright but I don't think I would buy one of those either. It all comes down to your personal tast and what you think looks good. The L-88 style hood comes up out of the middle of the hood and makes it look like a cheap bolt on scoop instead of a smooth rise like the cowl that looks like it is supposed to be there. I have seen the L-88 hoods loook good on some cars and look VERY getto on others. It has alot to do with the rest of the mods on the car.

this car i think looks good with the L-88 hood.
<IMG SRC = "http://homestead.com/marksZ28page/files/zf2.jpg">

but this car there is just no hope for.. the hood just makes it look worse.

well, i believe that L-88 hoods belong on 3rdgen vettes. i bought one for mine and its awesome. i saw it on a 3rd gen camaro a while back and i couldnt help but yell how ugly it was. my opinion. cowls are great but they are a bit over done... unless they are like a 1-2 incher, i love those. mainly because of '69 z-28s. i love big-block and SS hoods. but only if there functional. and i love 91-92 z-28 and all IROC hoods. but before i put an L-88 style hood on a 3rdgen camaro or 'bird, i would drive hoodless. just my .05 cents (inflation)

I have that scoop on my 87 sport coupe, and i would take some pics of it for you but right now it is in a police impound, oh well (good thing i still have my IROC) , personally i like the way it looked, and i had stripes on the car, i liked the way they flowed over the scoop.

I just stumbled across this pic in a for sale add, and thought I'd post it. Not a great pic, but maybe you can contact the owner through the add and ask if he has more pics of it...?

The add - it is at pg. 12 I believe..

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the 2nd gen yenko 454 camaro's have that L-88 hood on them?? I think they look ok on a 2nd gen but on a third gen they look too out of place, better to go with a cowl or ss. Just my thoughts.

You are thinking of the Baldwin Motion Camaro's. They had the L-88 hoods on them. And besides, that was back in the early 70's when that look was in. It also had sidepipes and a big Starsky & Hutch stripe down the side...LOL. Yenko did not build any 2nd gen. Camaros. Just Chevelles, Novas, and a couple Vettes. Well, I take that back, he built 19 turbo Camaros in 1981 until the emmissions people told him not to anymore! Be on the look out...the YENKO car line is coming back to life! This is not a joke either...watch out for the most wicked cars ever produced, and they will be sporting the YENKO name...legitimately I might add. I know this for a reason...I am involved in it, but that is all I can say for now...the magazines will tell all the details come this summer!

Car: 1992 Chevrolet RS Camaro
Engine: 305 TBI
Transmission: WC T5 conversion
Axle/Gears: Debatable . . .
The L88 hood looked pretty good on that silver third gen but I would do a little fabricatio to the front of the scoop to blen it in with the body lines more. As far as the big block hood it looks alright. The big block hood in my oppinion is better suited for the 4th gen Camaros. I had a 97 Z28 with one. They are molded with a wider scoop and are equal to a 4" cowl hood in the back. They really need to redisgn the width of the scoop on the big block hood for the third gens IMHO.

my 88 IROC is maroon and is every bit as clean as the maroon one on www.americansportscar.com that has the big block hood. I think the BB hood looks good on a dark colored 3rd gen. If your car is a light color, it may look better with a Harwood cowl. I'm getting the ASCD Big Block hood cause for 1) it looks kick a** on the maroon 3rd gen on the site, and 2) I get sick of seeing cowls on 3rd gens at the drag strip. Just my .02
