Good choice. Those are one of the best looking sets of wheels you can put on a thirdgen.

Black88cam,

I give you all the credit...

I fully copied you.. when I saw your car, thought to myself 'that's it' went back and forth for a while over many other wheels. Almost went for the 'timeless 5' , but hten kandied said they look like crap on a thirdgen, then I saw a thirdgen with the timeless and it did look horrible. Not that I care too much about anyone's opinion (especially my own).

Your car just had the right look, too much time and $$ in my car to skimp. And I have no regrets, the car looks as good as I could expect.

Thanks Black88' - good taste never goes out of style...

What size are they? I think they look a little small. Also, how what'd they run you?

Well,

Size is 17x8/17x10 frt-rr , I thought about this and did not want the ride associated with 18" wheels. Besides, I have the bilstien -pro-kit combo and large sway bars, and it rides rough enough for me on 17's. with 40series tires.

I like the look of 18's , but there are at least 3 reasons I did not go with them:

1. With these rims they are very suseptible to curbs and pot holes which abound where I live.

2. You can not convince me that a thirdgen will ride good on 18's on lowered suspension. they aren't made for that size wheel - like a new corvette or any modern car with large wheels is. without major modifications - softer bushings, sway bars, right shocks/air bags, etc.. I wanted some level of comfort ... + I don't think they look small on a thirdgen, to me they look about the right size.

Had to be honest with myself on what I wanted the car to be, didn't want a car that rides like a board, and handles like crap - even as it is the thing is brutal on sharp edged bumps - overall ride and handling is pretty good - I probably need a smaller sway in the front (understeers with a 36mm) maybe a 32mm.

3. 18" were about $6-700+ more a set I think over the 17" - rivets would have been another $100-200 ( I figured they would be harder to clean)
They (17") were at $400 per wheel - then factor in a set of premium tires +mount balance and you get the picture-
18" would have been well over $3K with tires- fully optioned (18+rivets+clear coat+ good tires) you could get to $4K real quick.
(Custom wheels direct.com(is local to me))
The 17" were right at or a little beyond what I wanted to spend - but the look is what I wanted - with a little more practicality over anything larger - too me-

The wheels really set it off, many people have used the word "beautiful" when they see the car.

I know some people may have done some things different (bigger wheels, wings, lower, cowl hood, flames, etc..) - but this is how I intended the car to look- right down to the 91-92 style front spoiler, which has been on the car since 93' before any trends - just my interpretation of a how a thirdgen should look - If people can appreciate it,great! If they don't like it, great!- to each his own -

-enjoy

Sorry,

Thank You guys for the comments,

My long reply is due to someone stating that the wheels look small- this same someone- also stated that my paint would look like crap before my car was done - doesn't look to bad considering it's not even waxed.... no flames intended

i think the car is freakin' sexy. although, where's the side skirts from the '91/'92 body style? i see the front spoiler but looks like the side panels are from an Iroc?

blue Zee..

only the front lower spoiler is from a 91-92', if you see the car in person -especially from a side shot, it looks very balanced.

82firebird.

I'm sorry , but I never commented on your car, If you look back through the posts I commented on how I thought many of the "custom" paint job cars look ghey.. not your car specifically.

However If you want my opinion, you have a very boring looking car, not what I would want to own, or sell to a friend.

but the beauty of this website is that we are all free to express our opinions. *** bless america.

82FB,

Just kidding....

Looks as if you put alot of effort into your result, then you should understand exactly what goes in to getting a car completed. It took me three years of working on it myself, in what little spare time I have

I did what I like, you did what you like. opinions, just like the belly button, everyone has one..

Those rims really do have just a classic design and it all just fits so well on a third gen. Very nice choice!

Car: too many ...
Yeah those look nice, very good match for the car (which looks good too BTW). I dunno who said 18's handle like crap but I think they might have been mistaken. I thought the change from 45/40 sidewalls to 40/35 made a noticable difference as far as handling response. To me the smaller sidewall setup is much more stable at higher speeds. I agree that they dont ride good, but compared to 17's I personally dont think its that much of a difference. 50 series to 35 series would be a big difference to me, 45 to 40 and 40 to 35, not really that bad. To each their own I guess. Now, I'm not trying to preach the 18's as being the best or anything and dont take my post personally or anything. I'm just replying to information I'm assuming you got off these forums. In the end, I think what matters the most is that you're happy with your car. If 17's were the best for you then it was good you went with 17's.

The car turned out awesome...Ive seen those rims before and they are perfect. I dont think those 19" + rims look right they are out of proportion with the car. A 16" to 17" rim is just right IMO. I guess IM getting old...I like they way you kept the body mostly stock as well very clean. Not tacky like alot of the overly done aftermarket stuff.

I like the 91-92 front spoiler as well have been thinking about doing the same on mine. I think its cleaner with the older 85-90 side ground effects. Looks cleaner with one side scoop two is one two many down the side of the car. And its a little more aggressive then the 85-90 one.

enjoy,

Mike

that car with those wheels looks sweet

you wouldn't happen to have a perpendicular side shot would you? I'd like to see how the wheels look straight on with the rest of the car.

Dark horse,

See my other post "grey/with intros" may have a shot your looking for.

All, thanks again for the support....

Crazy H,

I meant cars with larger wheels like 19", and 20" often have adverse handling due to wheel hieght, wieght, 25-30 series profile,

18" I know are usually considered the largest size for good handling, Also I know high speed stability is better than a 17" for sure, I meant that the ride is going to be slightly harsher than a 17" - I went fron a 255-50-16 to a 285-40-17, and 255-45-17 with the pro-kit and to me it is definetly less forgiving. not unbearable, and freeway is good, but on rough streets it is very noticeable - people who like a comforable ride would not like it, I'm sure 18's are fine on good roads - but railroad crossings, hot patch, and pot holes got be brutal if your not careful.
