I've seen 4x6 projector light housings before. If you got the bulbs and the ballasts I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.

that site has premade 4x6 lights with the projectors already retro'd in....i'm not sure of the quality of the projectors they use.... but for those prices you can pick up a set of used OEM projectors from another vehicle.. retro them into some free-form 4x6 H4 conversion housings and pick up some bulbs and ballasts.... probably for close to the same price they sell just their housings for.....

yes the xenarcs count! i have a question about the xenarcs, what style of base do those housings use, are they like an h1 or h4, or a special base like lots of the factory ones use?

i know they are nothing like a normal bulb. i think you miss-understood my question. What i was asking was: is the base of the bulb the same style as say a 9006 or an h1 (the part of the bulb that screws into the housing) because i was interested in these units but was curious if a catz bulb of a different color temp could be swapped in. that's what i was asking.
sorry for the confusion
thanks in advance

As stated above it is nothing like a H1/H4,9006 or any other kind of "standard" headlamp.Xenarcs use there own housing, base, connection. The base plugs into the Xenarc harness. The lamp/base seals onto the back of the headlamp & is retained by a two screws. There is no way to adapt these to your standard 4656 or any other kind of aftermarket xenon,or other so-called HID headlamp kits.

I have the 4x6 H4 conversion lamps but you have to do some modification to the headlight bucket and you have to rewire the dim lights with a 3 prong connector befor you can install them. Im gonna have to get a 3.5 inch hole saw and open the headlight bucket up cause the large plug on the back of the aftermarket lamps hits it and wont come close to going in. Ill post pics when I get them installed.

that sucks. id like to see what they look like. I tried to install mine when they first came in. But the found out that i had to pull all the headlight buckets out and cut larger holes. So they are now sitting on a shelf in the garage waiting for nicer weather.

The Xenarc kit requires you to notch the headlamp bucket as well. This is so the cable harness plug clears the hole in the back of the bucket.

the reason i was asking is because i would want to swap in a set of catz true HID 6000k bulbs to replace the 4500k ones that come with the xenarch kit. are the bulbs and ballasts separate or are they permanently attached like the GMC envoy HID setup (where bulb and ballasts are changed together), because generally the ballasts will outlast 2 - 3 sets of bulbs if the ballast is one of the good ones. this saves on cost when it is time to replace the bulbs, or if one desired to change the bulb temperature.
thanks

Lot's of deals on GOOD HID retro setups as well as a wealth of knowledge about d1s, d2s, etc.
I'd stay away from a catz capsule and go with a stock style capsule. Easier to replace later on. Different manufacturers (audi, bmw, caddy, honda) use different brand ballasts/capsules and different light color.

thanks for the link. so far i have 1 hid bulb and ballast from an escalade ( the bulb unplugs from the ballast cable) and 1 from a 99 gmc envoy (ballast and bulb are 1 piece, not good for retrofit). both of them use a Phillip's ballast.
every time a wrecked car that has hid's comes in, i check to see if there is headlight damage in the hopes to make a matched set.
thanks again
