From Russia with love! Formula 305.

Hi everybody! I`m a very big fan of f-bodies, but it is very hard to find that kind of cars in my country. And it is impossible to find parts for that cars. I found that Formula in a very-very-very bad shape and then started to restoring it. Now it is not finished yet, i`m waiting for some parts from USA (yes, yes... I have to wait for 2-3 months... or I should pay for $200-400 for shipping if i want to get parts quickly). Well, here it is...

Looks good. Interesting shade of orange; I like it.

Is this our first Russian F-body member? I know we have other European guys around here, but this is the first Russian dude I've seen. Welcome!

First of all, I`m sorry for my english
Well, I dont Know whole story of this car because I found it in last summer. Where she was before - i dont know. But ofcourse in Russia she arrived not new. Because in 1989 (this car made in this year) our country was closed to foreign cars (well, you know... USSR, iron curtain, etc). I think she arrived in Russia in first half of the 90s. Because in that time there no custom in my Russia. You could buy enything in foreign contries, ship it to Russia and use it. No paymenst to custom. Now, we have to pay very high payments on custom for cars vith big engines. For example, now for that Formula with 305 engine I have to pay $22000 on custom if I would like to buy that car in other country.
When I found it last summer it was after car accident - front right fender, bumper adh hood was in terrible condition, engine was "hand-made" because previous owners couldnt byu original parts in USA and use suitable parts from rissian cars (russian cars is a realy BAD BAD cars) or made some parts by itself. Water pump was almoust dead, radiator was very bad too, there is no right headlight and many other things. I dont know english very well to describe all bad things that was in that car. I bought it for $4000. Yes, it is a very good price for that kind of cars in Russia, because it is realy small number of that cars in russia. For example, all stock 2.8 firebird-91 in good condition wold be sold for about $8000. Easy.
My friends tells me that I am crazy to buy american car in Russia - 99% foreign cars in russia are japanes or europeans wits small engines, but they dont understand me - I LOVE that cars!
It was very hard to buy parts in USA because there is no PayPal, money orders etc in Russia. I use Western union. Another thing - shipping. I couldnt buy new fender or hood because it will be costs for me about $300 for each big thing to ship it to Russia.
Now car isn`t finished. I need new fuel injectors waterstripping, hoses and other small things that I dont offered in the beginning. I dont know what to do with fender wells. It is very big to buy it in USA, but in russia I couldn`t find it Also I need A/C. I dont touch tranny yet - it will be many surprises i think when I start to repair it. Inerior dont repaired too...
That 4gen is mine too. It is 1993, 3.4 liter. I said - I LOVE AMERICAN CARS!!! It is the best cars in the world!!! Realy.
Thanks for everybody!

Hello neighbour
Good to see that thirdgens exist in Russia, who would've thought

Anyways, for parts have you tried looking at your neighbouring countries like Norway, Sweden or Finland? Lots of thirdgens and basic parts like most body panels (at least earlier than 91-92s), engine and maintenance parts is pretty easy to find here. They may cost a bit more than in the US, but at least shipping won't take as long and be as expensive. Heck, if you're close enough you should be able to run across the border (or maybe not ) ?

Some places to check out:

Wow...that is dedication man!
I think as fellow thirdgenners, we should get together and help our fellow brother out. Since parts are so hard to come buy, and so expensive to ship, I think we should give him parts that we don't need so he can trully finish his ride!

I mean ****...I'll be the first to admit that I have some thirdgen parts layin around the garage that I don't need and I would rather give them away free rather than sell them just to see this guy's car finished.
Thanks,
Tommy

Wow, I havent heard about a trabant for a long time LOL! MY daddy had a trabant when we lived in Belgrade Yugoslavia. Thats where I saw my first Firebird (third gen). I loved them since than, and when I moved to the states 8 years ago I hunted and I bought me a PRO/AM none the less, and its now in the converting process to be a Knight Rider.
I can vouch right now for a lot of european people that they love American cars. They are sick of little engine, compacts. In Yugoslavia the youth really hates the imports. They say that Americans make cars with engines in mind, and Japanese make cars with computers and tuning in mind. Like we are good at making real engines, and since Japanese can't do that, they do what they are best with and doodle with the computers and "small" displacement. Its funny how we are soo used to our cars that our youth is brainwashed with imports, and fast and furious movies. This is ones European opinion. LOL. Now that I am American I can proudly say that I love our cars, especially the third gen F-body! Prefferably firebirds, but I am willing to get out of the closet and embrace a camaro or two. (No dirty ideas here, my left ear is pierced).

My RUssian friend, one thing that you got going for you is the color and the condition that the paint is in. Now, listen to the Scandinavian dudes and order some parts from them.
Can you post a picture of the engine for us too see!

When you come down here to visit let me know, and we will hit up some vodka shots.
Man I miss those days.

laters.

I know everyone's saying this, but it really is great to hear from you. It's awesome that you've grown quite knowledgeable about your thirdgen too, even though most of the other cars around you are drastically different from that V8 you got there.

As you've probably already noticed, you're in great hands on this website. Any question you'll ever have'll be answered by an insane amount of ridiculously experienced thirdgen owners. Also, through the website it might become easier to find parts for a) cheaper, and b) that fit your payment methods. If you gain the trust of thirdgen.org members, you're all set for whatever projects you wish to complete.

The reason I was asking about the fender is that I have one from a 1992 Formula that I would be willing to part with. I don't know if it would fit or not, though.

lol. Speak for yourself.

Well Crazy Russian welcome to TGO. It really is a great place for help and parts so get to know it well.

It's always nice to see third gens in other countries (though it's weird to think of them as "imports" ). And don't worry about your English, it's better than half of the people's on here anyway.

That really is so cool, and means a lot to me to see other people enjoying the third gen or f-body hobby like myself. All i read and listen to nowadays are people just trash talking third gens from all over and its a real put down because i devote so much of my time to my '92 or my gf's '89. I love third gens anywere and everywere! Keep up the excellent work.

Also im a James Bond movie addict...love them all, cept the new ones

Thanks!
Some fresh pics with my girlfriend and picture of engine. How you can see i hevr to use canister instead of coolant tank because it was broken in accident. Also you can see that there is no A/C and heater core. It was broken too. I will fix it in that summer i think.

It would be wicked cool if you actually wrote something in fluent Russian that CrazyRussian could understand... But something tells me that translator.com had a little to do with this.

You know, if we're going to collect some unused parts sitting around, it would be best to get them all in one spot and then ship them off in one box. Saves on shipping for the guy.

Super_Kev hit it in the head, get them all together and ship the parts together to save some shipping costs.

CrazyRussian, what color is your interior? What are the parts that are the most important? There may be some people with the extra parts.

Now the color of my interior is black, but it will be red I think. Now most importand parts for me are fuel injectors and MAF-sensor and all waterstripping. Could somebody help me to buy these items? I can tranfer the money.

Do you actually know if any of your fuel injectors are bad? Have you tested them?

Would you like to have a set of used fuel injectors? I have a set that you can have. They can be cleaned and then reused... Or do you just want to buy some new injectors?

Most of us here buy Ford fuel injectors for our cars, they do fit in a Chevy, and are the best quality injectors for the money. A stock 305 uses 19 lb/hr. injectors.

Take a look at these:

Injectors: Hawks Third Gen Parts-82-02 Camaro and Firebird Parts - Fuel Injectors

MAF Sensor: http://tpiparts.net/inc/sdetail/865

Wow, welcome to TGO CrazyRussian!

Did you get you're name idea from CrazyHawaiian?

Maybe I should get a new screen name as CrazyVin?

I would be nuts in a world of "pregnant rollerskate" vehicles like the Trabant.

Keep up the pride!

... and the Russian girlfriend pics

You can try eBay and look for a 19lbs SVO injector from Ford. This will be the cheaper than a set of Rochester (stock) GM flow matched, plus eBay will ship to Russia...I think.

Man, that is dedication indeed. I would love to help you out crazy russian, but I myself am only a 15 year old kid with no money, I don't have a ton of spare parts either, if I did though, I'd definitely be more then willing too.

Really nice 3rd gen though, and that is one unique color indeed. Really cool to see american muscle in other countries, must be rare over there.

Nice looking car and welcome to the site. Very cool to see people in other countries getting on the F-bod bandwagon. The car looks pretty sweet. Is that paint like a colorshift paint with metalflake in it? Looks good. Keep up the good work. Cute girlfriend too BTW.
