When is it ok to touch the new paint? . . . upcoming car show
My car is back in the shop to get some of the paint touched redone. Well, the Fbody Gathering is this weekend and I was debating on whether or not to compete. However, I won't get the car back until Friday, which would mean I would only have that night, or VERY early Saturday morning to get anything done with it.
I know some people say to not even wash a car until X amount of days after it's painted, but I don't know if that's definitive or not.
I wouldn't use any kind of paint cleaner on it, but I was hoping for atleast a wash, polish and wax. Any input would be appreciated.
For the 2 people on Earth who've never seen my Camaro before, this is what I'm debating on entering.

Should I stay away from the wash bay and just do it in the drive way with a hose and sponge? I figure that might be less harsh.

i'll admit i dont know a whole lot about paint.. but it seems to me that i would just give it a good rinse with plain water and perhaps a light sponging with a SOFT sponge. i remember when my dad got his VW back fromthe paint shop he told us kids not to touch it... well first thing we did.... (i was like 9 mind you) i remeber a light finger poke left an indent, luckly he never saw it
PS i have never seen your car before. it looks great.

1.) Wash at home, using Eagle One wash soap and some microfiber towels
2.) Dry with chammy
3.) Polish with Deep Crystal Polish
4.) Hope for the best

thats correct. i just painted my friends 91 firebird on here. you can wash it as soon as its done baking. same with polishing (i think its actually better since its easier to smooth out). but waxing is a big no no. my teacher told me to wait 4-6 months before waxing. so just give her a bath and a nice polish.

DO NOT spray high pressure at the paint, especially if it's at the end of the metal, example is where the doors and fenders meet. Just a light spray or don't put a nozzle on the water hose and let it rinse to make sure that you don't have soap on the paint.
Wash it all at home and use soft towels. You can get away with not polishing if you just dry it right let the untouched paint shine through.

I was told by my painter on multiple occasions (multiple paintjobs) that
a) I should only hand-wash it for a few months
b) No waxing for at least 6 months
c) The paint is still curing for about a month after the paintjob, so keep any contaminants off/out of it.
Nice car btw. Always liked the look.

Well I appreciate everyone's advice, but unfortunately the shop was unable to finish my car in time. However, I did stop by to take a look at it and they've somehow managed cause my window tint on the driver's side to get f-ed up.
