I was scared too, I removed the air cleaner and tied a garbage bag around the TBI unit and then I just said... "hey if I mess it up I wont be able to drive it anyway! because I don't have enough money to register it again or to smog it!!!!" so it'll be sittin in the garage for a while...

I first turned the car on for about 15 min... then let it cool down for like 10 minutes and then sprayed some simply green all over... then waited for like 5 minutes and then sprayed again then went over to set up my pressure washer and WASHED AWAY! and continuously sprayed simple green.

The car has 136,XXX miles.

I then turned it on and let it run for about 5 minutes then shortly after I dried it with a terry cloth, and sprayed WD40 and took some pics for you fine folk!

Real good, however what really makes it look neat and clean is you not having any paint peeling off or any really scratched surfaces. Your intake manifold for instance, nice even paint on it, no black and cast aluminum like mine

Good job

That would easily pass for 100K less mileage than it really has - Nice work!

It depened on the area where I had to use it, and what sensative parts contained and how much grease and oil was present.

lmao that made my day "I'll Rip Up Asphalt Beeatch!" lol

Anyways. Very very nice job on the cleaning!! I am really impressed. Simple green is really good stuff. I can get it for free from my dads work so now I know how im going to clean my engine next time i get the pressure washer out.

EDIT: Another thing I would like to say is that your car looks really good in black primer.

Be careful even if your just giving it a rinse . . .
- There are some areas (electrical) that don't like any water. Water with pressure can be even worse in those sensitive places.
- Water on a hot engine can be risky. Some say they like to wash a hot engine because the oil and grease residue comes off easier. I'd rather have my engine just warm and let the chemicals (Simple Green or Spray Nine) do their work on the grease. Then, use easy to aim, gentle, controllable water pressure. Practically no more than out of a garden hose (sometimes even without a nozzle on it).
- plus a running engine has moving parts (like fans, etc) that can cause dirty water to spray, getting on areas you don't want.

A helpful hint when cleaning is, after the chemicals have had a few minutes to penetrate dirty areas, aggitate those hard to get places with a toothbrush or paint brush. Then when rinsing, get in those place again with a soft brush to help wash away everything.

When done, due to using any chemicals (even mild ones) I like to treat all surfaces, eg; wax any painted areas, applying protectant to any plastic or rubber (hoses, covers, etc). Also relubricate any areas that may need it, eg; exposed mechanical linkages, hinges, etc.

Then finish off with a beer or two!

I use to do it all of the time when I detailed cars and never had a problem. Just keep the wand moving and don't spray the distributor cap or any major electrical parts with a lot of power. I do my cars at least once a season.

pull off the distributor cap and blow it out with compressed air.

Haha ! I guess that last one is probably the one I used to wash the outside of my parents truck a while back, took the pin striping off.

The engine bay looks really great man.

i want to pressure wash mine its covered in grease from the previous owner. im terrified tho its my only ride and i dont have the cash to fix anything if i break it. I heard about dealerships using a steam set up and thats supposed to be top notch. The steam and humidity loosens everything while the psi blast the stuff off.

it
