Prepping for Paint.

What kind of prep work needs to be done before I take my car to be repainted by MAACO? Sanding all of the paint off or what?

Hey, I'm in your situation too> I had origianally brought my car down to maaco to get an estimate and they told me like 1300 i think for everything, prep and paint, no door jams tho. Anyway my cars paint is pretty ruff, it has alot of cracks in it, and the stretch/flex marks in it. Basically what you need to do is bring the paint down past all the cracks and ruff stuff on the car, and that would be good to bring it like that, if you don't have time to pull up all the paint I guess, but I'm not a 100% sure. But what I'm going to do is strip the paint way down off of everything with sandpaper and a paitn thinner I forgot which one I'll be using tho, I'm going to pull off all the add-on's to the body parts, well I'm talking like the GFX, mirrors, grill, tailights, hood louvers, etc and bringing it down like that. I pretty sure I read somewhere that, that was the way to go when you get a maaco type paint job. And just make sure everything is sanded down good and take your time with the body work, don't try and rush it. Once again though, I'm not 100% sure if that is completely correct, if someone else has any input or correct me go for it. I'd also like to know if I'm missing something, so I can do it right.
Thanks John

Never had a car painted at Macco.....but depends on what you want.
I agree with taking off the ground effect, mirrors, tail lights, head lights, spoilers, even if your hood has the small inserts, id take those out also. I like to take mine to a trusted body shop (we do all our own body work) Just so you know everything is straight. Sanded, primrered, blocked, primered, wetsanded, then paint, then clear, then wetsanded, then buffed, and then hand glazed for a perfect shine. And you know its straight. Just my 2 pennys, take some b4 and after pics for me. Id like to see how well a Macco paint job is.
