Bringin' home another 3rd gen tomorrow night

Tomorrow at 7:00 I'll be taking my girlfriend Krista over to a friend of mine's house to pick up her new car

She's giving her Ford Focus to her dad and she bought a bright red '87 IROC-Z with t tops, overhead t top consule, and even the rare (and working) Camaro flashlight! I'll post pictures with all three of the cars together on Friday because it'll be too dark tomorrow night when we get home.

EDIT*

Here's the pictures finally

lol when i got my car the flashlight was installed UPSIDE down so it would wedge itself into the hole and there were no batteries in there. luckily i got it working and managed to place it in the correct position.

It's this small rectangular looking flashlight that has it's own dock on the headliner, directly in front of the dome light. I'll show you once we pick it up. It's pretty cool

Well she's got the car now!

It's really nice, the interior is MINT, and it's got some rare goodies like the Camaro flashlight and the overhead T top consule with the swivel map light and the overhead pocket. It's a factory Bose car too, it's just an overall nice car. Only thing we can possibly do to make it better is paint it which we plan to do as soon as my '90 IROC-Z is completed. Hopefully that's not toooo much longer I really need to finish the '90 so it doesn't look like the paint is falling off of it

I wish I could find rare cars like that as often as you do up there around here. There have only been two instances ot finding cars that I would have LOVED to buy but couldn't, I found a bright red 91 Z28 hardtop I think it had the 5.7 but I don't remember because it was so long ago but it was MINT and they wanted $4500 for it I think. Then I found another 91 Z28 on Autotrader a few weeks ago that was the metallic blue and it had t-tops and a 305 for $3000 (less than I paid for my car with the V6 two years ago! DAMMIT!) it had 180k miles on it but if that car had been for sale when I was looking I would have bought it.

This car belonged to a fellow fbody club member in my area and he was selling it to get a Collectors Edition T/A. Krista kindly took it from him since it was of no use to him anymore

I'll try and get some pictures taken on Sunday, weather permitting. Right now we're looking at possible frozen roads early tomorrow morning. It's raining like a mother right now and it's freezing cold. Plus it failed emissions, so I gotta figure that out most importantly.

Do you guys have pretty tough emmissions on the Missouri side? Because here in KS all they did was take a cursory glance under the hood for about 3 seconds. That was it, and my car's plenty loud too, but I guess that's easier for us.

I know it sounds crazy........ but retard the crap out of the timing until the car barely runs and it will blow clean for the emissions test. That's how I get my 300,000 mile truck to pass. When you are done, advance the distributor back to where you had it.

All you guys are pretty lucky to have a girl that is into cars. My wife isn't into third gens or any car for that matter. Makes life harder then it should be. I could post pics of her Mini Van? Stevo that is a nice RS for $400. I need a deal like that. -Nick.

Yea our emissions are pretty sucky. It passed the carbon monoxide rating, but failed the NOX and hydro carbons. I put some of the Guaranteed to Pass formula in the gas tank, and as soon as the tank is just about empty I'm gonna refill it with some cheap gas and take it to get tested again. That should work just fine since the NOX rating was BARELY off and the hydro carbons are easy to fix. We'll see how it goes either tomorrow or Tuesday. I want to at least get temp tags put on it so I have 30 days to figure out what's wrong with it making it not pass emissions. It runs to good to not pass, it runs REAL good.

Steve- This car was $3,000. The underside of the car is so clean I could eat off of it There's no rust at all on it, and no oil or tranny leaks anywhere.

Sorry I haven't taken any pictures yet, we've had snow and ice all weekend, in fact it's still flurrying a bit right now. So for right now I'll just post up some of the pictures that were in the for sale ad on my local club.

We'll get newer ones taken this week with her car, and my convertible and my '90.

nice phtoos of the car.. looks to be in great shape.. you seem to find a good number of good 3rds out there.. maybe i should have moved to st. Charles instead of my wife moving down here..

the plus side though, all weekend here it was 75 degress out and i got to play with the droptop, as in the top was down cruising.

Lately I've been finding a lot of good deals here in the midwest. I dont know if they've always been here and just came out of hiding for me, or what. I do know that being a member of the premier STL fbody club has helped with it a lot.

And yea I'm jealous of your weather right now. As of this morning it's like 20* outside.

Very nice ride!! I like the red with the gold rims. I like the exhaust too. What does it have for a rear? G92, J65, G80? Its a 305 car?

It's very solid too. The transmission doesn't slip at all, and the underside is super clean. I had fun driving it around town for her this weekend getting crap done on it. She loves it dearly.

The wheels are in pretty decent shape but she's wanting to get some black ZR1's for it sometime soon. The exhaust is a 3" Hooker Super Comp catback, and I love the tips that are on it. It sounds very nice too, I might be able to get a small exhaust sound clip for you this week. The rear is a G80, I'm not sure of the gears it has in it. I'm wanting to think they're 2.73's or 3.08's? And yes, it's a 305TPI car with a 700R4.

Here's the original vehicle invoice:

the two available gear ratios for an 87 305 TPI automatic were 2.73:1 or 3.23:1

what are all the RPO codes?

well it helps that you have that club for sure. Down here, in S.C. There is NO F-body club. No one cares. Sure we have some nice web forums, like FastGM and at one time even SCFYB was ok, but its not really tailored just to a F-body group. Its kinda sad when you think about it. Theres all these Mustang groups all around my area and none that specifically cater to the F-body. A buddy and I are thinking of starting up a f-body specific site, but its gonna be a lot of work, specially for us to just do a from scratch..

I believe the original owner made a copy of it and gave it to the owner she bought it from, who gave her the copy.

You definatly should start something up, that would be awesome. Every club has to start somewhere you know.

yea, it does, but we're kinda thinking a bit more locallized than International.

I thought of Palmetto F-body Association (SC is the Palmetto State)

but i dunno.

GORGEOUS. Oh and the car looks pretty damn good too.

I did get a look at that map light for the overhead console. Looks like that Iroc-Z is well optioned. Always nice to have more options than you know what to do with.

Here's a picture of the whole consule. The flashlight itself is really cool

Don't know if you can actually SEE anything cuz the picture is so small, but it's the only one I have right now, if I remember tomorrow I'll get a better one for you.

Ehhh...I suppose I don't "settle". I keep looking until I find something that I WANT. Kinda like when Krista goes shopping at the mall, if it doesn't fall off the shelf and yell at her, she won't buy it. Just gotta be patient I guess. It's really odd though that all 5 cars (vert, her car, '90 IROC, and '89 IROC, and my previous '89 RS vert) were all bought locally.
