Since I have no air in my car can I just get rid of the plastic on the passenger side that the Air Coolant Reservoir use to connect to? I'm trying to clean up the engine bay.

Does anyone who has done this have any pics?

Thanks in Advance.

Please dont butcher the car, do it right! A/C delete boxes can be easily had... http://www.thirdgenusa.com/thirdgenusacamaroparts.htm Conversion is real easy to do. I still have all 4 speeds with the delete blower motor. Heres a pic of mine please excuse the dirty engine bay...

Re: No Air... Can I get rid of that bulky plastic?
Guys,

I don't plan on butchering the car. I love it too much to do that. Anyway, I do plan on keeping my heat. So I should just buy this A/C delete box and mine will look like yours?

Thanks,
Jay

Re: No Air... Can I get rid of that bulky plastic?
yeah if you buy the delete box it will be like his it is just to direct the air from the heater blower into the vents that should be all you need.

Ya id love to get an AC delete box, ive had the rest of A/C out for awhile just that big eye sore of a box in the passenger side compartment bothers me. Just cant justify spending the $80-120 for a box yet. Too many other things i need to worry about. Sure would have made the header install easier without that box though!

I made my own "ac delete" box out of some scrap sheet metal, pop rivits and clear silicon. Here's some pics of it.

Thanks man, It really does make me feel proud to hear comments like that. I'm a "youngster" myself at age 25 but been into the hobby/life for about half of those years. I lernt early on if your like me and most of the other guys working on a tight budget you really have to make your money and mods count. No sence in paying for or buying it if you can make or do it yourself. I try to do all the works on my cars (engine builds, welding, body, paint, interior work, etc) the only things I don't know how to do yet is rebuild an auto trans and set up a ring and pinion.

you gotta start somewhere..

i just trashed the whole assembly and cut up a piece of sheet metal and screwed it on to cover up.. not very clean but i was just trying to close the holes.. its no show car and i really dont care what it looks like under the hood.. most people will only be looking at my tail lights anyway..

Re: No Air... Can I get rid of that bulky plastic?
i made one too cause i could not find a heat delete box at the time. just removed the top half of the box, and cut the bottom half down to about 1" in height, then fiberglassed over the openings and top. came out pretty good i think.

I know what you mean, my AC doesnt even work for the Virginia weather. Might need charged or sumthing, but I def would rather fix it than take it out. Good luck to you guys.

Re: No Air... Can I get rid of that bulky plastic?
haha, there was nothing wrong with my a/c system at all i just never used it. I literally used it maybe 3 times last summer even on the hottest days. My gf isant happy that i took it out but i just love windows down no matter what the weather. Id love to fab up a box but id hate for it to turn out like crap. The cutting then fiberglassing doesnt sound too bad though ill have to think about it. But ya SOMETHING needs to be done!

Re: No Air... Can I get rid of that bulky plastic?
whats left of the main harness that comes out of the passenger wheel well is now running under the box instead of over it. look close and you can see it.
it will probably all go away soon.

one other thing is did that was an oops, but didnt bother me too much is i accidently removed the connection that controls fan speed. so i rewired things and now the blower is either on or off, no adjustment. but it doesnt matter, i barely drive that car in the winter and when it get warm enough in the car i just turn it off.

86TA,

Your delete box does look damn good. Too bad my bottom half is cracked or I would have liked to done it the same way.

I could probably get one from another car but I think I will just fab something up and the same time give my MSD box a good place to sit.

Re: No Air... Can I get rid of that bulky plastic?
Hey guys I used a heater box out of an S-10 pickup believe it or not they fit right in their one of the studs even lines up and sheet metal screws take care of the rest, I had to cut a hole for the resistor control thing though, and my buddy used one out of a 66 Nova once too. You'd be surprised how many GM cars used those same firewall holes, and the junkyards are full of these pieces, just passin on the info!

355,

Your does not look bad either. What year S-10 did you get the heater box from? Is it still easy to get to that last header bolt?

Thanks,
Jay

I think it came out of an 84' s-10, I'm sure one out of any 80's s-10 would surely work and and yes the back header bolt is still accessible, pleny of room you'd almost swear it was made for the car.

i removed a lot of my factory wiring that i dont need anymore, i believe there were 2 or 3 bundles of wires running around the a/c box origionally, i was able to remove most of everything and consolidated the rest into one bundle, i did however have to rewire the blower motor and control wiring to my purpose. you would probably have to remove the box to get the wires under it.

I wouldn't mind putting a heater box back into mine, but I hate the look of heater hoses coming out of the firewall.

I'm going to get rid of mine doing lt1 swap and don't want to spend $300 on a/c. What do you do about the heater hoses cap them off????
