I've used meguires plastic-x. it worked good for cleaning my tail lights and headlights, because they were hazed. id still like to get them cleaner.

Re: Favorite plastic polish???
When I did mine, I went a little bit more hard core. I sanded them down quite a bit, repainted the black gridlines and gave it about 7 coats of clear and then used meguires buffing compound to make it perfectly flat (get rid of orangepeel etc). In my opinion, they turned out perfectly and look a million times better. I have used meguires plasic x on my parking lamps and it did a good job, but it isnt comparable to what I did to the tail lights. It took me about 60 hours of actual work to get them done though because I wanted it to be perfect.

Re: Favorite plastic polish???
I used the 3M Plastic Polish (ordered it through O'Reillys) on my t-tops when I wet sanded them and I used it on my uncle's Impala's headlights and taillights when I detailed it a few weeks ago and the stuff did a really good job. I need to find some 3000 grit sand paper and sand my t-tops again though to get rid of the 2000 grid scratches.

I used 3M and Mothers. The 3M worked better and also you will have better results with a soft buffing wheel to apply. Terry cloth off and final wipe with a super-soft rag, flannel. 3M also makes a cleaner if they are really hazed. Use a medium buffing wheel to apply it and then do the afformetioned 3M polish.

Re: Favorite plastic polish???
Flitz is the best stuff I have used. It works on everything, including plastic & paint. Spending 60 hours polishing your lights is a little overboard IMO. I just finished a set of tailights for my cavalier and it took about an hour and a half for the whole thing. Use 400 grit wet sandpaper to remove the DOT numbers and any scratches then use 1500 grit wet to remove the 400 grit scratches. After that I use flitz on a rag and hand rub it to get it pretty close and then I used plastic polishing compound with a soft buffing wheel on a electric drill (both from Ace hardware) to get them to really shine. I've tried going further with plastic before, going to extremely fine grit sandpaper, trying all different rubbing compounds, etc and there is no noticeable difference between doing that and the steps I described above. The time spent with the buffing wheel is the most important and taking your time and not staying in one spot too long (builds up too much heat) is the key.

I use Meguiar's PlastX Polish and get good results. I use a good soft polishing cloth and a lot of rubbing. Turns out real good.

Re: Favorite plastic polish???
Anyone using the power ball to do the tail lights.??????????..I tried some 3M the other day with a drill and buffing wheel, but I guess I was not doing something right...So I got a rag, and tried that still did'nt do to good...I guess it just takes some practice...I am going to work on them some more this week.....
