Painting engine block same color

Hey guys, i searched for this but still didnt find an answer to one of my questions. I work at a body shop and have come up with my own color. I'd like to paint the engine block the same color as i am going to paint the car. We use Sherwin Williams paint at our shop, do you think it will hold up on the block and for a long time as well?? and should it be cleared over?? Thanks

Re: Painting engine block same color

a local friend had a T bucket and painted his motor the same color that was used on the body and it too was reg body paint and had no issues. i wanna say all he did was make sure the block was extra extra clean so the paint would stick in the heat. but this was about 12 yrs ago.

Re: Painting engine block same color

When my engine was installed in the car the first time, I had painted the block and heads with regular DuPont automotive paint. I only drove the car for 1000 miles before pulling the engine out again (and repainting it black), but the blue paint held up nice. It wasn't even discolored around the exhaust ports on the heads.
