Black bucket vinyls?
I dont know how vinyls work, not being an... import-tuner type, but would it be possible to get a black vinyl and put it in the headlight buckets for black buckets? Seems like a relatively easy way to get black buckets without dealing with any paint...
I'm definitely gettin 'em painted black whenever the car gets a repaint... which is a long ways off... but I'm surprised no one has done this, is there a reason for that?

Just kinda missing something without black buckets, but maybe I could just spray paint 'em the ghetto way and it would look all right...

I think I recall reading about something like that but I don't remember where. Since the paint isn't perfect anyway, you could probably do it yourself pretty cheaply and it would look good. Just mask off everything you don't want painted around the buckets and get some wetordry sandpaper from Wal-Mart and some Duplicolor paint in black and clear. I'm no expert on painting yet, but 400grit would probably be enough to rough it up and clean it up and then go over that with 800grit. Then do a few light coats of black, don't try and get full coverage in the first coat or it'll run (clear runs easily if you lay it on too thick). I found out the hard way trying to tint my taillights. Then do a few coats of clear. It shouldn't take more than a few hours to lay the paint. Let it dry overnight before you try and take off the masking tape or it might leave streaks around the buckets. The directions on the back of the can will tell you the cure time. If you have a garage or something to do this in that would be best so crap doesn't get in the wet paint.

You could probably get some scrap pieces of vinyl from a sign shop, put it on, and then trim it once on the car, but it'd be trick to cut it perfectly before the install.
.....on my old 86, the black had really faded and the clear was peeling and lookin' all cloudy. I sanded with 800 grit wet, and hit it with some duplicolor semi-gloss and it lasted well over 2 years. I re-did the same thing when I sold it to my brother a few years later.

I don't think that would look right honestly..plus you'd have to worry about it coming off. On my old car I just masked everything off and used semi-gloss spray paint and it came out perfect in my opinion.
