LED Taillights
Ive been working on an idea i had awhile back. Ive always liked the double round tails on the 70-73 and i like the modern look of LEDs. I like the look of my black outs, i want to modernize the rear of the car, and didnt want anything ***** at all. So, I came up with this. Let me know what you think, good, bad, indifferent. Oh ya, they are bright as all hell. I might have to throw in a resister to calm these things down.

Re: LED Taillights
Wow those things look great!
I have an extra set of tailights, I think I might try to do something like that.
If you get a chance I think everyone would like some more pics & info

Ill move forward now and keep you guys up dated. this weekend i might be able to put this one in the car and see what they look like and take a pic as long as i have time after i pull my wideband.

Good idea! They look great too. I have a similar idea that I want to try out.
I wish they made some tails for our cars, but hell, we get to do them ourselves and be different. lol
Keep us updated, and good luck with the project!

I wouldnt mind seeing those in the regular color scheme.
White towards the middle, red in the middle and amber on the ends. Anyway GREAT JOB DUDE.

Hey, looks sweet.. where did you get the leds at and have you thought about having the normal colors just the circles so you would have the red/amber/white leds that would be under the blackouts? Just an idea looks cool in its own. Keep us updated... good luck

Re: LED Taillights
ok its been awhile, but i got my tail lights in and working(mostly). I took all the photos i need to write up a "how to" but it seems im always at work. Basically i used LED trailer lights. I think they are made by blazer. i got one set frome pepboys for 49.95 or something like that. youll need two. here are the fininshed pics. if i get some time ill throw up the constuction pics. iw ired the tails so both are dim when in park setting, outers brighten for brake, and inners stay dim and brighten for turn signal. this setup is pretty easly changed. A couple disclaimers: 1. I found it easiest to cut up my oem tails
2. the turn signals dont blink. (i know why and i have two solutions but havent tried either) I am alittle preoccupied with my second motor swap and another project car at the moment. if you have any questions, ask away. Ill answer when i get chance. thanks.

Re: LED Taillights
Looks pretty good to me, if you used 4 white LEDs in the center of the inner lights, for backup lights, it would look just like a modern 70-73 taillight.

Re: LED Taillights
Very nice! I would just use standard filament bulbs for the back-up.Since they are in use 1% of the time.I would also run a 194 type LED for the corner lense( as big as will fit) maybe something like a 9 LED unit.

Re: LED Taillights
i like it alot, also the reverse light gives a neat look to it. i like the overall look. We need to see some outside pics with the lights on and also with the reverse lights on.
JimmiyDavidson- im with you i think it would be cool with the center4 as reverse lights. Good thinkin.
Later -Matt
