Has anyone tried this?

I'm taking a stab in the dark by trying to see if anyone wants to trade a set of wheels and tires I have for an SS style hood for my car.

Has anyone tried fitting the LT1 SS style intake under this hood? I think it'd be so to be able to pop the hood and see a functional ram air setup that looks factory.

Re: Has anyone tried this?

isnt the LT1 intake as tall as the TPI intake? i think the 4th gens might have more clearance between the hood and the intake though. i dont think ive ever seen a functional SS ram air on a 3rd gen...if it was possible u think it would be fairly common...u never know though

Re: Has anyone tried this?

I think the LT1 intake sits lower than the tpi, if not the same height.

If you're serious about it, go on some forums where LT1 guys go and ask for dimensions on the LT1 SS airbox. Camaroz28.com for example

I thought about that too, but there probably isnt enough room for it. And there would be a lot of custom fabrication.

Maybe a lot of custom fabrication, maybe not. Keep in mind, the ram air box made for thirdgen ram air hoods isn't sealed when the hood is closed.

I'd be down for some custom fabbing, that'd just make it even more special for me. I just gotta get my hands on the hood first.

....yes, but at the same time, RAM AIR is really only a trick name for Cold Air. There's no real "RAM" effect. ....so the only thing you'd be losing with the airbox unsealed is "maybe" a degree or two that you'd pick up from ambient underhood heat. ....but with all that "fresh" air comin' through the hole in the SS hood, I bet you'd never see a temp difference between a sealed and unsealed box.

Re: Has anyone tried this?

i agree. you would have to be going pretty fast to push more air into the intake than what the engine does on its own

Re: Has anyone tried this?

Its possible but you have only 5-5.5in max to angle the box upward. If the intake needs to retain any sort of neck it probably won't work. Good luck in trying though...

It'd be more for looks than anything. I wouldn't expect a huge HP gain from it.
