I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound bad to me. -But are they providing the paint for that 700? Most shops range from 2-3K around here to prep and paint my car - and the 2K ones won't do my ground FX without additional cost.

I paided $3500 to have my Z painted. You get what you pay for when it comes to paint unless you know a painter and he gives you a great deal.

Re: New paint job

Exactly what they said, you get what you paid for. I know a freind, and he will do my paint job for $1000. REAL GOOD FREIND. Hes been a body man for ages, BUT only does cars when asked. He will only do them, if he will do them with care. And he will do everything for me, BUT the paint job's is actually valued around 5-6 thousand dollars.

You can always buy the cheapest paint, and cheapest clear coat for around $300 and do the work yourself, but u cant be cheap if youre looking for quality. Its just one of those things.

Might not be a bad plan. It takes ALOT of patience, and practice to get good at the prep work - or at least I've alwayd heard. -And I'll admit, I just don't posess the patience/skill when it comes to bodywork. -And 90% of how good it will turn out depends on the prep work - I'd leave the actual base/clear to someone that has some time behind a spraygun, but that's just MO.

I'm not a big fan of exotic paints unless it's a show car. If you do the prep work to perfection yourself, then all you need is someone that knows how to shoot a decent grade paint on. - If done right, it'll look as good as a 3.5K paint job and maybe better. -def. worth 700 IMO...

BTW, mines still in rattlecan primer, so again - no expert here.

Re: New paint job

yes yes i had some hail damage and have been prepping the body back to no dent specs, and its a pain a real pain. BUT the prepping costs alone for primer sand paper sand blocks dent pullers and anything else was aside the cost of the paint job.

Re: New paint job

a friend of mine does body work, he actually did it at a GM dealer for many years but now he has had his own business for several years and he does an awesome job. He told me that he could work with me on price by telling me how to do some of the things myself or whatever but that paint would probly cost $1500 alone.
