options for engine bay paint

Im looking to paint my engine bay this weekend. Ive been searching for the past 2 hours (company time) for some examples, but not exactly what im looking for. I wanna go black inside the bay. Possible flat black maybe gloss. I was thinking something along the lines as 3m rubberized undercoating, por 15, maybe truck bedliner. Something that will give it a rugged aggressive look. Anybody have suggesstions???

I can tell you from experience, that flat black in your engine bay will leave a lovely amount of dust. IMO I'd go with a low or semi-gloss black, won't be too shiney, will give it that aggresive muscle car look your going for and won't have to clean it half as much as you would with flat

Personally, unless you are base coat/clear coating it for a show car, I think rattle can semi gloss looks pretty good. I use the engine paint in semi gloss. Turns out good, dries super fast, those cans spray sooo nice, they are easy to touch up, and you can clean them when they get dirty.

I scratched my inner fender messing with my A/C and just grabbed a can and touched it up. Cant even tell.

Yeah there are probably better ways...but I wasnt looking for show car finish. The motor will come back out some day and maybe then Ill spray it with something nicer.

Por 15 is good stuff, but I hope you never want to take it off. haha. That stuff is awesome, but once its on, its on.

J.

mine is rattled flat black as well, but if i ever take my drivetrain out again, i'll probably add some chassis coat, and a large amount of elbow grease.

Whatever you choose to go with, make sure it is sprayed on, out of a gun or rattle can. I used por 15 once and boy did it look horrible. Get single stage automotive paint and use a GOOD primer with a sealer. Get all of the rust out.
