Is this the right board to learn about wheels???

When I bought my 91 FIREBIRD it already had some custom wheels on it. Some Eagle Alloys Series 117, 15X7, I think. He also gave me all 4 original rims and only one is messed up (has a dent). I am not sure about the original size of these rims. I took a tape measure and height and width and I came out with 15X8. Stock tire size is 215/65R15 and that's what I am running on there right now. I really want wider tires and there's only so much you can put on 15X7's. I'd like to get some new rims but it's a very wide world of selections out there. I don't know about wheel spacers or anything like that. There are some rims that I have in mind right now that I like though. Torque Thrust or something like that. I just think they look sweet. If anybody can point me in a general direction I'd be very happy. Thanks.

What size wheel did you want to use? Many Thirdgens had 16X8 from the factory. Many of the members are using 17X9.5 and larger. If you know what diameter and width we should be able to help you with the offset and tire size.

That's just it. I'm not really sure. I don't want the wheels to look out of place if you know what I mean. I would like everything to fit under the wheelwell. I was thinking maybe running 275's in the back but I don't know if an 8 inch wheel is wide enough. Like I said, I am very ignorant when it comes to this topic. Sorry.

Looking out of place is a point of view. Personally I do not like a wheel any bigger than 17” and some 17” wheels I do not like.

This is a picture of my old RS with 16X8 ROH ZS wheels. The offset is made for a Thirdgen. I do not think I would put a tire any bigger than 255/50-16 on an 8” wheel. In my opinion a 245/50 is just about right for 8”. If you want to get a 275 tire I would look at 9.5” wheels and most of those are going to be 17”.
