clear coat question

my clear coat is starting to fade from sun exposure, specifically on the top and rear-top, is it possible to just re-paint on the clear coat over it to repair it or am i gonna have to sand it to metal?

Re: clear coat question

No and No. I am by no means an expert, but you cannot spray just clear. Something to do with bonding between clear and base. You shouldn't have to sand it to metal either.

Re: clear coat question

also the paint under the clear is probably faded to a different color, so re-clearing it would look wrong. no need to sand to bare metal, just sand it smooth and straight.
