QUESTION ABOUT IROC WHEELS!!

I am planning on buying the chrome Iroc Replica wheels for my 1990 RS. I wanted that "muscle car stance" to it, where the front sits lower than the back. I was wondering if putting 16s in the front and 18s in the back would be too drastic, or should I put 17s in the front?

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IROC WHEELS!!

I would not recommend raking the car by changing wheel sizes. Most people off set their tires by one 1" (17 front 18" rear). To rake the car you would have to put a smaller tire height on the front.

I would suggest using springs to lower your car.

Not sure why you want the front lower?

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IROC WHEELS!!

ok, thanks. The reason I asked is because I have seen people use different size rims. In their case, it was 18s in the front and 20s in the back, but I dont want to go that big. I don't want to lower the front, I was just explaining how the car would sit. I want the back raised. (hence the 18s in the back) and I have 15s on it now, so I wouldn't be lowering it at all. What would be the ideal tire size to acheive this?

Our thirdgen cars don't ride well when "raked". Just thought I would let you know that. You can do it but your front end will suffer. Little things like ground effects, which are hard to keep right when the car is at factory specs will be even harder when the car is raked.

If you feel you must do this then do as the above poster suggested and go with adjusting your stance via the springs not the rims.

However the car is yours to do as you please. Just remember as you tour this site...if you don't see a lot of people with high post counts doing it...there is a reason why?

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IROC WHEELS!!

Thanks for the info. I didn't have my heart set on doing it. I just loved the way it looked, and like I had said, I've seen people use different size rims so I figured I'd ask. It will be my daily driver soon once the winter comes to an end, so in that case, I won't do it. I think I'm leaning more towards putting 17s on.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IROC WHEELS!!

Go for it ... especially if you like the look. I would use blocks in the rear rather than lower the front.

My little bro just did this to his and it looks a lot more like a muscle car, and less like a cruiser.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IROC WHEELS!!

Moog IROC-style replacement springs, 5665 and 5662, will provide a slight rate (26 3/4 front and 28 1/2 at the rear). I didn't like the fender gap in the rear so I remove the OE isolator and replaced with radiator hose. By so doing, I lost a half inch. The ride is quite nice.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IROC WHEELS!!

The best 'muscle car' stance is with the 2nd gen Camaro, not the 3rd gen- sorry.
The 2nd Gens looked better because they APPEARED longer than the 1st Gens, so a slight nose down, nasty hood scoop, big slick rear attitude said don't FWM!
With the big slick/skinny Crager front tire look, it said 'I have a monster engine under this hood and when I step in it, GOD KNOWS where this beast is going!!
Pro Stockers from the 1970's like Grumpy Bill Jenkins, Wally Booth etc had some really NASTY looking attitudes with their cars, but the 3rd gens look better as road racers- a SLIGHT nose down look is good, but I think that it needs to be balanced with a SLIGHTLY wider look at the wheelwells. Just my opinion...
