Yes, you have to remove them (machined grooves) if you want it to polish up all pretty. That's what always takes forever to get them polished.

I agree. You need to remove those lines. I did it with 120 paper on a mouse, then 320, 400, 800, 1000, 1500. I then wiped it down with a clean cloth, and applied some Never Dull. After this hazes, buff this and your ride will be rolling on mirrors. I know a lot of people have their preference on polish, but i will swear by Never Dull.

LMAO I am in the process of polishing the same rims I think and it is hell on earth. I don't think an IROC rim would be so bad. You have to get rid of those little grooves like you asked. I am going to try some heavier grit like they have said. Don't even bother with 220 if you still have some grooves left because it will take forever.

hey MADOGIROC the only way to screw it up is to give up. i have seen so many people just give up and say its useless when they dont take their time, it takes time, and persistance, if you can sit on your but watching TV for hours on end, or even sit here on the computer for hours, then you can polish a wheel. all it is is SANDING, and then applying something like MOTHERS ALUMINUM POLISH afterwards, ok here ya go:
get a 30 pack and 3 other friends, ok scene 1:
pop the top sip the fizz, get out clear coat remover, spread on, let set, then wipe off, drink some more.
2: drink, then sand with 120 grit, then drink.
3: drink, then sand with 220 grit, drink.
4:drink, then sand with 360 grit, drink.
5: drink, then sand with 600 grit, drink.
6: drink, then sand with 800 grit, drink.
7: drink, then sand with 1200 grit, drink.
8: drink, then sand with 1500 grit, drink.
9: drink slowly, then WETSAND with 1500 grit, THEN DOWN THE REST OF THE BEER LEFT IN THE CASE,
and now throw on some MOTHERS ALUMINUM POLISH, and WALA, presto, clean nice shiny RIMS. thats all there is to it.
oh yeah. also go buy new center caps. it makes it look alot cleaner!

Someday, I wanna get around to polishing mine. Do I have to take the tire off to do it or can I leave it on? How much sandpaper do I need to buy? Thanks.

25-30 sheets of 220, 10-12 sheets of 400, 6-8 sheets of 600, 5 sheets of 1000, 2 bags of steel wool.

Oh yea, much easier to take the tires off.

the telephone pole's marks came right off with 150grit on my first go-round, im pretty sure it'll take yours right off too.....to the others....in another post, they suggest using a polishing wheel on something like a dremel...can i get the same results by hand or do i need to head to walmart to pick one up?
