Is it safe to powder coat a serp tensioner?

I finally got my Eastwood PC kit and spray booth up and running, and now Im FINALLY ready to PC small parts, anything that will fit inside a 30" oven. Im starting with underhood stuff since I already got the motor pulled. I was thinking about the tensioner though. The powder has to cure at 400-450F for 20 minutes. Would this temperature cause the tensioning spring inside to fail or weaken? I really dont wanna take that thing apart, seems to be alot of force held inside that little *****

I know they P/C coil springs, so I don't see why it would hurt the spring in the tensioner. All else fails, I think they're only like, $40 at the usual places. Wouldn't try coating the pulley though.

why not? You mean the belt surface, or the entire pulley as a whole? I thought about cleaning up the belt "grooves" on all my pulleys, then taping it off and coating them

EDIT: wait, just thought about the bearing inside the pulley. forgot about that. damn!

I'm fairly sure you can press the bearing out. I just wouldn't p/c it out of paranoia. I have enough problems with squealing belts. :P

As far as Powdercoating where the belt rides, thats how several of the companys sell them. Mine were P/C in the belt grooves and no problems here.

Interesting. I was always under the impression that they masked off where the belt rides. Good to know.

thats so weird, I forgot about this post and I jsut saw another post on a PC board about this same issue. Im not sure about our tensioners, but there was a guy who said he PC'd his tensioner and there was a plastic bushing that ended up melting and oozing out. Has anyone taken one apart to verify there is ONLY metel parts inside? Id hate to go on the assumption that you got lucky with yours only to find out that Im not so lucky
