all my polished aluminum looks like !@#$

My valve covers has some sort of hard film on them. The only thing I could think of is condensation. It looks horrible! I have alot of polished parts under my hood, and they are all getting this nasty film on them. Is there any type of protector I could put on them to keep this from happening? Also, how does the spray polish work? I am scared to use regular wax because I don't want all the dust with the motor compatment painted black. Can you suggesat a brand or a better way?

this is what it looks like clean

Professional advice: If you don't have a cordless drill...get one. Use the mothers mag and aluminum polish with the Mothers polishing mini-ball. You COULD polish them by hand...its a ....yea. But the key with chrome/aluminum is polish-polish-polish

Re: all my polished aluminum looks like !@#$

the key is to keep everything clean, the problem with polished items is they need a clear coat to stay nice and polished. otherwise they tarnish. i recommended the mothers ball aswell.

zoops is supposed to work really well to prevent the tarnishing. or repolish all of it and powdercoat all of it with clear.

Do you have the car in a garage, next to your winter beater?

Well, we found out a while ago with our old car that when you park in the garage (Even if it is not heated) with your snow/ice/salt covered vehicle that when the water evaporates it is similar to an ocean breeze. It's just minor amounts of salt, but the edelbrock valve covers, carb, and the aluminum wheels are completely covered over by a white film.

Re: all my polished aluminum looks like !@#$

well although I have a single bay garage for my car I think that is the most reasonable explaination. I have my driveway salt stored in there with the car. Here my next question, I dont mind cleaning it over and over....in fact I enjoy it. If I put a sealer on it and keep re-applying say every 2-3 weeks do you think that will stop it. Nothing has oxidized yet but I will do anything to stop this from happening.

I have found that .. after polishing the aluminum .. I go over it with windex. It seems to help prolong the shine...

For the winter you could just shoot it with a nice coating of WD40. It's cheap, and easy to power wash in the spring.

Re: all my polished aluminum looks like !@#$

Unfortunately....this will become "routine maintenance" for your wheels...a tip of detailers advice....after you have polished the wheels...WAX the wheels themselves. Use ANYTHING carnuba...not a polymer wax...that won't work.
BE CAREFUL of the windex...only based upon its checmical composition. Windex has ammonia-or a vinegar base...which is acidic...in the recon shop we use that stuff to strip wax/buff material OFF the paint...so be careful.

Re: all my polished aluminum looks like !@#$

as Amigas87 said use a CARNUBA WAX once you tough them up.
I started using this stuff and its AWESOME.!

POR15 Glisten PC over polished parts.

To clean off polisning residue I use Extreamlly hot water and dawn dish soap. Try ASAP.
