what do you guys think about painting the a-pillars/windshild surround black, along with the area (b-pillar?) between the t-tops and rear glass, down to the top of the door? (on an dark red metallic 91 z) so it would be like an early 4th gen camaro? and maybe also paint the rearview mirrors black... positive and negitive input is appreciated, i cant photo shop, and im having a hard time visualizing it...

Re: 4th gen style Paint
while an interesting idea, i never was a fan of the black roof so i may be biased...but to your suprise i think it may look alright...but your are going to have a hard time figure out how to 2-tone the sail panel, like where to cut it off...idk, i was thinking about doing a 2tone when i go to paint my car, but i'd be following the fender body line with a black on top and a silver on the bottom. that was my original idea, so maybe i am a black roof kinda guy...but limiting it to just the roof is hard to say unless someone photoshops it well enough to get a real feel for it.
----------
Post a COUPLE of pics*** helps in the end and i vote to paint the mirrors body color.

Re: 4th gen style Paint
thanks for the ps pic. wow that looks horrible, cross that off the list lol. my paint is faded between the t-tops and the hatch glass, and it has some spider cracked on the part of the front bumper between the head lights, i'm just looking at my options short of painting the whole car, but it looks like a total repain may be in order... ahhh soo much money...

Re: 4th gen style Paint
well like i said...if you follow the body line of the fenders all the way to the rear, which would do the top of the bumper between the headlights...the hood and top of fenders....the windshield pillars, sail panels and roof inbetween, top of rear fenders and hatch...and it can carry onto the lip spoiler and just go to the points of the spoiler if you wanted...so you got a two tone...personally i would do black on the bottom of a red two tone...but maybe stephan can tinker with doing the top half of the car above the body fender lines black...see how the entire car looks....just another option that would take care of all of your probs it seems.

I've seen it before, it actually doesn't look bad. That picture you PS is the first time I didn't like how it looked.

Re: 4th gen style Paint
I like it. -wouldn't DO it, but I like it.

....the biggest issue for me is that the 4th gens have a body line between the B pillar and the actual body for the color to change nicely. Thirdgens transition smoothly, so there's no natural color break.

Re: 4th gen style Paint
hey guys, bring this post back! im turning 18 on sunday, and my parents said they'd paint my car for me but i said i only wanted to do it, if it was dont righ, you kno, 3500 or more, a NICE job, if i cant do it right the first time, im not gonna do it at all. but, remembering this tread, i asked them if they would have part of the car painted for me, and they said yes, so i got some black paper and electrical tape, and blacked out the camaro like i said in the first post and in the ps by stephen (thanks btw!) except i left the rear view mirrors red, and the trunk lid and spoiler red. it looks FREAKING AWESOME, ill try to post some pics tomm. the car looks way longer, and lower. over all meaneer looking, and thats with black paper on it lol (from a dstance of course!) time to go to the fancy paint shop down the street lol

Re: 4th gen style Paint
but at that point i'd just paint the entire car black, which is $$$ i wish i had lol. insted of the paint, i may do true daul exhaust w/ cutouts (just to be loud) and get my lt's ceramic coated. ahhh choices.... why cant i just have a money tree?

Re: 4th gen style Paint
I can't see the pictures posted except for the photoshopped one since photobucket pictures are blocked here at school.
By the description, though I think my car is...sorta..near what you described.
I, though, didn't have a choice. The guy who did the body work around my windshield(rust..) couldn't match the paint.
I've wondered what my car would look like with a black hood and black rear hatch end and black spoiler, though.

Hmmm, not too bad. Think it would look pretty good gloss black.

Re: 4th gen style Paint
Are those PS'd pics or has it been painted already? I like TG Goose's black on top (hood, etc). The black roof only reminds of a Vato's faux convertible top attempt.

Re: 4th gen style Paint
there are not ps pics, nor is it painted lol. i took electrical tape (black) and black construction paper and maked it off, so i could see if i wanted to do it or not, im leaving it on for a little while to see if i get sick of it. it looks really cool from the side, but yea i have though fake drop top... but, it also makes the car look super low and long, and w/ black headlight pockets and black t tops, it looks pretty cool

Re: 4th gen style Paint
well im pretty much set on this. when i go to the paint shop, whats a reasonable price? i kno macco will be cheap... im goin to a VERY nice place called franks that does tons and tons of new corvettes, lotuses, other exotics, to get a quote, and a local place, and maybe macco just to compare prices. but what should i expect from those places so i dont get burned? thanks! alex

Re: 4th gen style Paint
i don't see why they couldn't do it with a $1000 or less, but maaco is going to be crap, i've watched some of thier jobs...and they tell you up front, they don't expect anything good/perfect. Maybe it was just my maaco. Otherwise i say go for it. Looks pretty good with that color combination. Definally post pictures of it when your done and if you post them in a new thread, then post back here to let us know where to look!

Re: 4th gen style Paint
well looking at the rest of the car mroe closely, its gona look dumb to have nice black and crappy red, so it will ahve to wait. i do want to do it eventually, so keep your eyes peeled, its on its way. (im getting electric cut outs instead

Re: 4th gen style Paint
well it looks good from a distance, but the front end has crazy amounts of rcok chips, and the clar coat is fading badly on the place i want to paint, andd all over the car in general, i would get irritated every time i saw the nice black against the flawed red...

Re: 4th gen style Paint
I've thought about having the apillars on my vert painted black after I tint the windows but I think it'd only look good with the top up. With the top down (where I do 90% of my driving) it'd look weird.
