Re: dash pad protection
Lot's of prayer, no one has really figured this one out so there are lot's different prefered method's...I take my pad out in the winter even though my cars are garage kept - not heated. I take the good one in the house (install a decent cracked one) and store it until spring, then re install. I have never had one crack in the sun (only in yhe winter) but I keep my pad clean and moist with a little non petroilum based tire dressing.

Re: dash pad protection
It's my understanding that Armorall is about the worst product on the market - that's what I was told by a rep at a dash pad replacement company. They recommended a non-silicone based alternative, but wouldn't suggest any brand names. I use the Turtle Wax stuff, I think it's F-21 or something - it seems to be a better product than the Armorall.
The sun is the worst - it needs covered. I got a carpet cover off eBay for like $35 - it comes with self-sticking velcro to install, but I don't use the velcro, I just lay it up there and it stays. The only time I remove it is for someone special to view, or at a show, or to spray more protectant. Last year I was at Carlisle GM nationals, and didn't even take it off for that show!
I also always keep a reflective windshield cover in place (unless I'm driving), and I always leave my windows cracked slightly to let the heat escape from the interior. I never carry valuables anyway, and if I can't park my car with a cracked window for fear of stolen stuff, then I'll ride on - I don't need to have my baby there in the first place!
