Paint prices

How many gallons of paint, primer, and bondo would I need to paint a 91 rs? My buddy is willing to paint the car I might be getting and all I need to do is buy the stuff needed.
Roughly, how many gallons of paint and primer would I need, and how much should I be expecting to pay? Also, would I need to put a clear coat on it?

Thanks a lot

Re: Paint prices

First off I wouild need to know if the door jambs, rear hatch jamb & engine compartment are being painted? Do you have t-tops? How many coats of paint? What color? Are you using etching primer? Is the body work completed? This would figure how much paint you will need and cost.As for bondo use it sparingly.
Are you using a single stage paint system or dual stage paint system? This will determine if you need clearcoat or not.

Re: Paint prices

im about to paint my car, and have the EXACT same question. the body work is done, im gooing to use a sandable epoxy primer with flex agent, a sealer coat, then the stock color paint (flame red metallic) probobly 3 or 4 coats with flex agent, and then 3 to 5 coats of clear (with flex agent?), useing an hvlp gun, im not doing the jambs or underhood, and i will be useing a middle of the road PPG for all of it. thanks! im also painting the t-tops body color.

Re: Paint prices

Hope I can help, I painted my wifes 87 GTA last summer with PPG omni flame red metallic. I thought the later colors were brilliant red metallic like my 92 firebird parts car. They are pretty close though. As many have said the Omni base coats don't cover well, and I used allot for the ground effects spoiler ect. Over a gallon and you don't need flex agent with that base coat. It does help to use a sealer tinted red oxide or such.
