sh*t is ugly.....
no wonder it was left in a field lol......I actually kind of like the idea of a puzzle paint scheme but the solid red front half of the car just doesnt look right
yes it looks terrible, i guess i'm the only one who thinks its amazing that a car w/ painted firewall, a/c components, even a painted to match transmission case and etched rear glass to match the paint, would be left out to pasture like that

wow In houston? pretty cool to bad they left it in a field.
yea, and now its gonna get DESTROYED by ike

I think it is pretty cool, despite all the haters here.
I wouldn't do it myself, but given the chance to rebuild that car, I wouldn't repaint it to hide the puzzle section..

That is one of those cars somebody restores and has in a museum with its history and magazine articles out to tell you its life. Wish somebody would do that.

have the magazine which featured that car, will try to find it and post some pics !
sad part is, hurricane ike may just destroy this car in the next 12 hours

That looks like something a clown would drive to the circus. It's further proof that painting talent and good taste do not necessarily go together.

ike is gonna tear that bit$h apart.. then gas will rise to 6$ a gallon and you wont be able to fuel it

are you refering to my house or my truck? thanks bud, its AWESOME for people to take the hurricane so lightly that they can joke about it while its happening. and if your are talking about the camaro, its got a stock 305 im pretty sure, not exactly a gas guzzlerOriginally Posted by lordmetalz28

actually it must get pretty good gas mileage, it actually has NO engine. Its probably got the best fuel economy out of any car i have seen.Originally Posted by sailtexas186548

part of me wants someone to buy it, clean it up a bit and put a modern twist on it and get it back in a magazine.

the paint scheme wouldn't be so bad if it was just left to the body not the engine, interior, wheels, etc. and what kinda mirrors are those? they are kinda cool lookin

Who ever designed that scheme must have been high on paint fumes or maybe crack?...............

Wow another uglied camaro...why does this keep happening? That thing is garbage, I wouldnt waste time looking at it much less restoring a stupid magazine car.

I think I'm going to be sick. It's like a 80s computer geek car.

i think that it really needs to be washed.

While that car is still way too over the top for my taste, I would still sooner drive that than that new “SMART” car. Seeing how clown cars were brought up and all. Originally Posted by TOM-1LE

If I were to buy a car like that, I would only buy it with the intent to restore it and repaint it.
That's a shame, somebody put a lot of time in effort in that car. I mean its dated for sure, but there was a lot of wild paint schemes in the early 90's. Stuff like this is the main reason I'm going to paint my car a solid color, like factory. Fads like this fade quickly, spinner wheels anyone?

I just noticed the enormous subs behind the front headrests. LOL The owner was probably disoriented by the bass to the head and got lost out in that field.

If you crave attention, this car is for you. Have seen it in the past. It's still as ugly as the last time I saw it.
Junior Member
it does kinda look ugly but kinda cool in a way idk i think if sum1 were to restore it and give a modern day twist to that "checker" style not with the bright red or anything sumthing not so flashy but more suddel it would look kinda cool
Hm...lol

honestly, I like it, I'd buy that in a heartbeat if it was near me. its in nice condition and its obviously been taken care of the majority of its life which is more then most thirdgens have goin for em. Also, who cares about the paint, it can be repainted easily, however I'd keep the same paint style but maybe somehow incorporate some newer designs into it. who knows, with a little help it could be a magazine car in no time again.

I was just thinking, dang.. who needs a car alarm when they have that paint scheme.

Geez, I really don't know what to say. . .I don't hate it, but certainly don't like it either. I can see why someone like "Lee Bates" isn't as famous as say, Chip Foose. . .
But still, take a theft recovery car that was trashed, and put a year and half of work into it deserves to be commended, in some way. . .
Just like that car, it puzzles me why he did that. Can't believe they actually tore the engine apart to paint it up like that. I guess it was supposed to be "Art on Wheels". They'd be better off just parting it out.
If it were close to me, I'd make an offer on the dash pad if its still in good shape and hit with a rattle can in black.

I remember that period well, and frankly that paint scheme, while loud, was not that outrageous at the time. The engine compartment is certainly over the top. But the interior too was not that weird compared to other show cars of the time. It reminds me of the garish "tribal" paint schemes that were the rage a few years back and are now already passe'. If you want the car to retain character for the long haul, keep it simple, one or two colors without a lot of flamboyance in the scheme. Otherwise figure your vehicle will be out of date within 5 years.
