Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
I've got an '88 Bird with the Special Appearance Package (ducktail spoiler and wheel spats) I think it looks just OK with the wheel spats. I always liked those on 2nd Gen Birds better but what do you guys think on mine. Later.

Looks nice either way, too bad there isn't a piece that runs below the rocker that would join them together.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
There are f-bird owners out there who would give there left *you know what* for the pieces on that special appearance package.
I like it......I think it was a Bandit package [right?].
Would look really cool if you did the whole car, spats and all, in glossy black and had a gold bird on the hood!

Stephen: Whats up man, you guys at ATGO still meeting at Lou's? I plan on moving back to Austin by next summer.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
I'd keep them and hold on to them for the sole purpose of knowing they are pretty rare. Later on you may change your mind and wish you hadn't gotten rid of them. It's your car though.
IMO I like them. It's different and you don't see them every day.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
I like them, and they are different, for sure. Personally, I think they would go better with some less modern wheels, like snowflakes or something similar to give it that period effect.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
Keep em, they fall into the "Rare" category of thirdgen... If your looking to get rid of them, put them up for the board to have first dibs on em before ebay as their are bird owners that want those. Nice color for the car!

They look awesome, keep them. The rarity factory alone is worth it, and I do think they look nice.

Personally, I like the car without them but if they came that way from the factory - I'ld keep 'em on.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
I would probably be the one guy daring enough to make something unique out of them that would put all the people dying to get those parts into a raging fury.
If you're looking at the picture you took of the spats ON the car, I think if you were to shave off a little bit in the lower, outter corner so they weren't so boxy looking, and had more of an upward angle towards the wheel well, they would look 10x better. Then, I would take some body filler and cover up the lines where they meet the car, and paint over it.

BlueZee28,
Sorry to hijack this thread. I see you have the Riken Raptors tires. How do you like them and how long have you had them on your car? Thanks

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
don't know what all the negativity is about man, those look great!! just work on reducing the gaps and tweak the fitment.
I can honestly say I have never seen that before, that reason alone is worth doing it.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
The gaps are tough to tighten up cause the pieces are made of bumper material so they kind of change with heat or cold. Later.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
One of the main reasons I bought my '88 back 4 years later was the unique sport appearance package!
The pieces definitely need some TLC to keep them going and one day when I'm ready to start the rebirth of the car, I'll for sure be keeping that portion!
Right now it's been sitting parked for a couple years and needs a lot of work, but it still runs!

I like em!The only thing I would do is try to get a better color match.I think that the difference is color is making the gap look worse.Nice ride u got!

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
I like them too, but like bluezee, I'd like to modify them some. My idea would be to see if you can get molds made of them and repop a set you could modify and not feel guilty about ruining originals. That way you could get fiberglass or something that you might be able to use to tighten up the gaps, and smooth the lines somewhat.

Keep them. It looks really retro with them. Although you need to drop the bird too.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
Just because something is rare doesn't mean it looks good. Those things belong on a 2nd gen and look really out of place on a 3rd. And you making this post tells me there was already doubt in your mind about them. & it could just be those wheels like that one guy said. Or if there was something on the back of the wheel openings maybe it'd be better.

Re: Vote - With or Without Wheel Spats
Definitely with. Only thing that would make it better is if you blended it into the rest of the car to fill in the gaps, then painted them. That would look killer.
Also not too sure about that wheel well trim. Doesn't quite look right to me. Maybe if it was on the spats too.
Either way looks good. I want some made for my Camaro.
