Re: States with front license plates?

Re: States with front license plates?
Front plates are required in Ontario Canada. Going to buy one of those stow-n-go.
As for the video that Stephen posted....It's a CCFBG club member (and TGO mod). He uses a power window actuator to raise and lower the plate. It looks VERY cool in person.
Great link..thanks

you can use this

its not motorized, its manual, but works great for pics, and if you leave it down and get hassled, just say "oh, sorry, i forgot so flip it down"

Re: States with front license plates?
I live in Ontario, Canada as well. I've also been awarded a ticket for no front
plate. I decided to make the front plate part of the grill.
These pictures suck, but I fabricated that front grill out of aluminum sheet.
The license plate is 100% intact, just bolted in from the back side.
So far the police have not objected.

Front plates in Wisconsin. I don't have one on the Camaro though. The only thing bad about this state. As long as we don't have emissions I have no reason to leave.

Re: States with front license plates?
Never had a front plate on my GSX, 89rs or my current 88. No problems here, my uncle works for the local PD and said the cop would have to be a total D*ck to bother you about it.
Besides the cops should be busting ppl with expired plates or no plates instead of messing with someone who's car only has one NON expired plate :/
Id take it to court, the judge would probably laugh.

Re: States with front license plates?
In Minnesota they normaly require a front plate but for some reason if you
have collector plates you don't have to run the front one if you don't want to.

And TECHNICALLY, the front widow doesn't satisfy the letter of the law. Although most cops will not care.
Lucky me.....I found the local one that does.....

Re: States with front license plates?
When I had my first Firebird in Chicago I didn't run a front plate for a few months, never got pulled over for it but on my way to work in a suburb I got a ticket for it. It nearly killed me to drill holes in my front bumper
Now I live in a rural area and considering running no plate since I will drive my TA maybe 3k miles a year and mostly around my town, don't think the local police will bother me about it. If I can't patch the holes I'll have to run the plate though, nose covers for 91-92 firebirds are a bit too expensive to just replace lol.
On a side note. A family friend is a chicago police detective and said that if there isn't factory provisions already mounted/available for a front plate most chicago cops won't harass you about it and 99% of the time the judge will drop it in court. Just be careful in the burbs as those cops will nail you for it every time.

Re: States with front license plates?
In Kansas you actually have to pay extra for the front plate, if you want one...
Years ago when I lived in Iowa I refused to hang the front one and got several tickets for it and received a little more "attention" from the local law enforcement...

Re: States with front license plates?
They should do that in all states. Very smart. Cut state costs by not producing near as many plates and make profit on the people that want front plates. Better than what Nebraska is considering - raising the costs of vanity plates and doing nothing about the unnecessary front plates.

Never had a problem with it in ohio, unfortunately it already has the holes in it, and so i keep the plate in the back, and if i ever get pulled over for it im gonna make up a BS excuse for not having it on.

They all ready do that up here in Massachusetts. Plus now they don’t even send out a notice that tells you if your license has been revoked or is going to expired. They want to suck your wallet!! Blah!!

Re: States with front license plates?
I so wanted to get one of these. But my car already has the front mounted license plate. Right in the middle of the bumper. That is one impressive TA you have there. Oh well I still need to polish the front bumper yet. It has bug etchings in it. When I used Meguiar M105 polish it really improved the look of the bumper. I did it with just a hand wax pad. The results were very good. I'm going to use my Dual Action Polisher on it, when spring comes.
but do you know any cleaner/buff ball that would remove some paint residue/road grime off my rims thanks

They have a forum there and those people on there are detail aficionados. Make me pale into comparsion. I'm still a padawan when it comes to detailing yet.

Re: States with front license plates?
Forgive me if this already been posted...
Ohio reasons for front plates:
It was voted on to do away with the (IMO) useless front plate in Ohio. It would have saved the state hundreds of thousands dollars per year but it didn't pass b/c, one, it gives the cops a place to shoot radar so they can tax collect. It gives a nice, flat, white surface that is perfect for radar. Secondly, they use it to identify oncoming cars. Supposedly they have nabbed tons of crooks that way so the plate law has stayed.
My personal DD cars (Jeep, truck, civic) all have front plates. The IROC and C6 do not, will not. Looks like crap and I will pay the $25 or so fine if I get stopped whatever. I am 32, been driving since I was 16, so... hey lookie there 16 years most of which i have not run a front plate and I have been stopped twice for this. Once the cop told me to appear in court with photos of the car with a plate. Ok... jimmy rigged plate, took photo, took it off... off the hook. Second time I just told the cop I was from another part of the state and i would put it on... I didn't. No ticket for this one.
Moral of the story... the cop has to be a real richard to stop you for this and actually give you a ticket. I can see if he wants to "check you out" but if you don't have a warrant or are not drunk or anything... they should let you go. Just IMO. I will probably get stopped next time I drive the IROC or Corvette now!

Re: States with front license plates?
Of course it came back off minutes after each time.
It's funny with the collector plates because when you apply for them (as I recently did for my Bird) you can even check a box for how many plates you want. I put two and asked if that would mean I need two, they said no, so one will go on the wall in the garage.

Yeah, NC doesn't have a front plate but I have my car registered in FL so again no front plate for me. When I retire and move back to south TX I had planned on either putting it in the windshield or mounting it to the airdam. I don't plan on drilling holes in the nose of my 'Bird.
