?s about mounting strobe lights
Alright first off... Im not really lookin for the rice opinions. I have searched but havn't found what im looking for. I would like to know if anyone has like a Whelen strobe system in their car and where did you hide the power supply and wires? I wanted to do 4 maybe a 6 strobe set up and put them in the brake lights turn signals and custom fab somthing for the side markers. I had thought about running wires to the ashtray and hidding switches in there but there isn't alot of clearance. Any ideas? Thanks -Matt
Also im not sure if i want to buy them yet caz i dont really want them to look bad with wires everywhere. I just want to know if anyone has a good method of hiding them. Thanks

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
Well my car was a subsadized car for 10 years. I still have the box, siren, & PA system mounted. They mounted the siren under the battery & the other box under the middle of the nose. All the wires came up through the battery tray.

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
I have a whelen 4 head unit. I mounted the control box under my coolant tank. It was a tight fit, but not too bad. Running the wires to the tail lights was a challenge, but not bad. I ran the switch wires through a grommet in the firewall, under the center console, to a switch by my window switches. Looks really clean and works well.
One of the other firefighters I work with mounted his in the trunk in the box on the drivers side. The only down side was running wires to the headlight. You can also hear it firing when he has it on, which bothers some people.
Try going to http://www.elightbars.org/bb/. The people there really know their stuff and are very helpful. Plus you can get a used unit a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
Ill try to get videos up soon. My camera decided to grow legs, so I have to go pick up a new one. I have microman bars across the top of the windshield and rear hatch, whelen strobes in head and tail lights, and a code 3 siren.
Its awesome responding in a 3rd gen. You get a lot of looks of "oh crap" from people on the freeway when you are coming up on them!

But it didn't take my small town to realize a new guy/car on the department. After, there was no paid staff. 100% volunteers.

We are 100% volunteer as well. I agree, in small towns people learn the vehicles quite quickly. Alot of the time I only had to turn on my strobes. People were courteous enough to move when they saw lights. When viability was low or it was an out of town driver, the stealth visor and siren worked wonders. lol

But you know.....
The best part, when responding, was when the COP pulls over when you come up behind him, running code, on your way to the station! Kinda like you pulled him over!

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
Mounting a full siren is difficult in a camaro. I opted for this:
undercover siren
I have the switches in the center console right behind the power window controls. The siren is easy to operate, has good tones, and can be fit in our cars easily.
I have this speaker mounted behind the factory fog light on the passengers side. You can't see it unless your looking for it. speaker
These are the lightbars that I have. They are amazingly bright and very inexpensive compared to other lightbars. I highly suggest looking into them! I have a 24" across the windshield and rear hatch, as well as 10" along the side of the rear hatch for side warning. Microman Lights

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
I came across a few videos showing other camaro lighting packages:
This is just sweet. I love where they mounted the front lights! I wish I could do the same. PG Police
Decent 3rd gen, but I dont like the mechanical sound of his siren. Could also use some more lighting.3rd
These are headlight flashers instead of HAW's, but still look decent.
Wig-Wag
Taking camaro lighting to another level. full bar

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
I still have 2 of my wig-wag boxes, but imagine the headlights popping up & down, on my GTA.....
I doubt they'd even pop up half way, before trying to go back down!
Thought about wiring one to my fog lights though and connecting it as part of my hazard lights.

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
well i ended up getting a red/red whelen slim-miser for christmas. So i think it will be just fine. Dont have sirens but the light it self will make a difference. Looks really nice and when its off its not too flashy. Blends in pretty good.

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
When you get it mounted, I wanna see a video of it running in your car.
I've always thought my STS lights would look good as an Emergency light controller, set to Hazards, or wiring to control the lights lighting alternating.

I still have my wig-wag boxes from years ago, but I can imagine them on my pop-up headlights. Imagine them trying to pop-up, turn on, go down, other does the same, back & forth.
I have one wired to my front amber parking lights though.

Pretty cool.
I want 2 separate lights (not in 1 housing) on 1 controller, to put inside my front 2 GTA hood vents.

It was fun to have, at 2am, when somebody lined up & wanted to race.
Light turns green...Let him launch...Get behind him...And turn on the reds.....Wow! His brakes work REALLY WELL!

Oh yeah.....I had wig-wag headlights too.

Here are a few of the places I get my lights from:
http://www.micromanindustries.com/
Craig makes his own bars and sells them. They work very well and are a lot cheaper than name brand bars. He will make any of his lengths in any color/pattern you want. I have them across my windshield and rear window of my truck and soon to be in my camaro.
http://www.thefirestore.com/store/ca...lights_sirens/
I used to live close to this store and bought a lot from them. They have decent prices on equipment and stand behind their sales.
http://galls.com/category2.html?asso...talog&cat=2660
Galls has a large selection and ok prices. If you want to order through them let me know and I can get you a discount.

Ok as a guy who sells this stuff, here's my thoughts and building around the light you have.
front of the car
add 2 wig wag flashers flashing both your high beams and fog lights, diodes in place to prevent feed back.
2 Fed Sig Impaxx clear lens AOA lens, red leds, lower corners of the windshild, angled to the sides for forward and side warning.
rear of the car
2 Whelen Vertex leds in the corner tail light housing,
2 Fed Sig Impaxx clears lens advance off Axis lens, red leds, 1 each side of the lisc plate with a special mount.
2 Fed Sig Vipers, single head, upper corners of the hatch, just below and out board of the 3rd break light
2 Impaxx same as above, on each side front low corners fo the hatch glass for side warning.
Noise
Fed Sig SS200 smart siren and light control center.
Dynamax MS100 siren speaker and bail mount behind the left fog light.
Just some thoughts.

Ok as a guy who sells this stuff, here's my thoughts and building around the light you have.

There would be a big difference between going big and overkill... for a muscle car show i think that would be slightly overkill. I dont even normally use the car to get to the station... I can run there in about 20-30 seconds...

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
What I've thought would be good for POVs/unmarked cars are the 4th gen TA lights.....Imagine a red light flush into the recessed center of the mirror.....

Re: ?s about mounting strobe lights
yea that would be pretty neat. I always thought it would be neat to get a 6 head strobe kit like a 90W one from whelen, and make the rear tail lights and front turn signals flash together as in driver side then passenger side and then have the opposite side fender marker lights flash so when the drive tail light and front signal flash the passenger side marker flashes.
