plenum polish progress.

well here is the progress on my TPI plenum polishing.
i didnt take any before pics, but here it is before i use mothers billet polish and a buff ball.
pretty good reflection imo

heres what i did.

i started with 100 grit sandpaper and brought it down smooth.

then i stepped up to 220 wet sanding and got it smooth.
then i went 320 - 400 - 600 wet sanding.
each time i got it smoother and smoother.

oh, and i did it all by hand... no power tools involved.
took about a day and a half to get where it is now.

my girlfriend is so great, not a single complaint during the whole thing.

Sweet dude. Are you just doing the top surface? Are you using the Aunt Jemima as a protectant?

Re: plenum polish progress.

if you are do it now before you are all the way done. I just tape around the lines and paint it. Then wait until it is all the way dry and sand off the top parts of the fins again and rebuff it. Try and make sure you get all the casting flash off because any that is left will show up alot more than you think.

lol, the aunt jemima protects like none other...
i use it in my oil... give me 5000 hp at the wheels...

as for the grooves, i think i will leave them for a while till i can afford to have them masked off and powdercoated black.

i am only doing the top for now.

Re: plenum polish progress.

your going not going to stop with 600 are you? From 600, to to 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500, then 3000...it'll look like a mirror then...

Re: plenum polish progress.

If you had buffing wheels and the correct compounds, you could stop at 400. But if your are just going to finish with aluminum polish, I recommend going to at least 2000.
