Crappy paint blues

I bought my car a little over two years ago. The guy that had it before me had it painted (cheapo painted). Now the paint is starting to peel off the car in several spots. Will I have to get the paint stripped all the way down and start over? I like the color and the spots that aren't peeling look good.

Also If I do have to get it stripped and repainted about how much money would I be looking at spending? Thanx in advance for any help.

after doing it myself, I'd recommend stripping it on one condition. Only if the original paint is falling off so it's goin down to bare metal. On mine I could see where the original paint had fallen off then covered over by a cheapie paint job so I stripped it all down. I couldn't be happier, but it's a lot of work. If you can find a place that does media blasting, go for it, it'll save a lot of time, otherwise use aircraft coating remover, a razor blade scraper, a mask and goggles and of course, THICK rubber gauntlets. If you need to know anything else about stripping it down (hints, etc) email me and I'll be glad to help.

You wouldn't have to go totally to the metal, and I wouldn't, unless you're doing a show quality paint job. Just down enough to get a "level" playing field.

It will get primed/sealed anyway. Typically a pro job could cost $2500 to $4000.00 depending on what you want and how much body prep has to be done. The materials alone would be $500.00 to $800.00.
