rust spots emerging from my hood
either sand blast it or have it blasted. you can get a blaster for less than 100$, but you need a compresser too. if you do it(or omeone else) tell them to spray an anti-rust material on it, then paint. the hood is easy to do also, if you are going to do it, talk to me for some tips(just got done doing my 74

Small little chips can be covered up with scratch color-you basically want to seal out oxygen. This will not stop the rusting, but it will keep the rusting in a smaller area and won't spread too far. Problem is-the rust will want to eat a hole from top of hood to bottom side. It's a temporary fix that will but you some time before you do the body work properly for a new paint job. If you just want to go ahead and get it over with, you will have to do a lot of sanding or use grinding discs (probably your best option). I don't know how familiar you are with body work, so I'll just give you a quick rust preventing overview. Get the rust you can see off-you'll see little black dots in the shiny metal where you have just removed the rust-take care of the dark spots or it will just rust up again. Don't grind away into the newly uncovered metal though, just take it easy on it, your common sense will tell you when enogh is enough. Go over the spot with some laquer thinner, mix up some RAGE (always had good luck fixing little spots on cars with this stuff)lay it over the spot and wet sand until smooth. Spray over with rustoleum then spray paint your car color over it. If done right (no missed areas) the rust will never return.
I had a HUGE rust spot in the center of my hood in the 87... and I took that out with the good old grinding disks, but that was just one localized spot. I currently have about 5 or 6 really small(smaller than a pencil eraser) spots, that only I notice. But you guys know how that is, **** on your car, that you bitch about, but no one else can even find. It was a real bitch to get the repainted area on my hood to look good on the 87, and I really don't want my car to look like ****. It's black, so I don't know if that makes it easier or harder(the 87 was gunmetal metallic.)

Black isn't so bad to work with. I had a $400 black camaro with about a hundred of those little spots on the hood. I went over them with the scratch color once, then a second coat. To make everything look nice and even, I used black polish and buffed the hell out of the car twice over using an aircraft buffer, and once over by hand. Scanner not working now, but if it was I could post the pics... car looked mint.
