Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
Gonna revive this dead thread.Since a few people have asked about the halos. However this is not about the halos in the sig. Those are gone, as are the shrouds.Anyway, here goes.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
I liked the looks of the old set better. The new set has the appearance of 2 lights are out (top center & bottom center).

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
No room for those LEDs.Plus, not too keen of the circular halo look.Current set-up is cleaner & a much nicer shroud design.Never liked the way the old halos were mounted. They just stuck out too much.

Really nice work. I've never been good at fine soldering like that. Props.
I do prefer the complete line of the previous sets though.

Thanks, I prefer ccfl myself for the "compete" look, but that was never my intention for either set.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
Trim the shroud so it just fits. You want a wedge fit & watch the top/bttm gap around the projector as you trim it.You want even spacing, side/side can be adjusted by sliding the shroud l/r.Trimming is required on the sides as well or the shroud will stick out too much & prevent the lense from seating properly.I used a small amout of adhesive on the back of the shround for extra security.
As for the old halos:There were several things i never liked.
1.They looked good (to me) only with no detail around the halo (sig), but not when the projector & shroud are visible.I just was'nt digging the look anymore.
2.Plus they never "blended in" well, w/ or w/out the lights on.The halo was'nt evenly spaced on the shroud or projector.
3.I also did not like the way i had to mount them & the shroud was not my first choice. The more i looked at them, the less i liked them.
Id rather have a shroud i like, than a halo. The hew shrouds are just a cleaner look.I got tired of having the halos on fulltime.Im gonna rewire these so they're only on with the headlights.I just wanted to do something with the dimples on the shrouds & also wanted to test wireing up my own LEDs.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
You'll have to cut the adhesive out with an x-acto knife.Just work your way around & genly pull up on th lense, til you cut all the way thru.Dont pull the lens too hard or it'll break.Did i sell you silver housing?Cause i think they'ld look better black w/ chrome shrouds.

OK then....How did YOU got the lens off? Those look exactly like mine, but the lens wouldn't budge.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
What housing I used, had the lens sitting in a U-shaped channel. I discovered that after I cut the housing to get it off, after no razoring (is that a word?), not even after oven heating, did no good.
My genericMSPaint of how the lens fits to the housing.

But considering how the projector is longer than the housing is deep, how does that help in any way? No projector will fit inside the unmodified housing anyways. I guess if one was just putting a H4 bulb for a non projector setup, it would be fine.

These housings also have u-shape grove for the lense.I take it off not so much for the shroud, but to apply fiberglass to both sides.

I really like this projector retro-fit thing you have going on here. I'm gonna have to try that on my convertible. Can you give me some hints on where to find the wiring/ballasts for this? I read the first and last page, kinda figured I read most of the material in those pages. I'll snoop around on ebay for projectors in a few weeks after I get caught up in my bank account from Christmas shopping

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
Ok I've been looking on ebay all afternoon at stuff for this. I realize now that I will want to use actual HID projectors and not Halogens.
As for the "kit" that I need to make this work, I'm totally lost. Is this something you would recommend?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9005-...item4aa7a32da6
I have no idea where to start with the wiring/ballast. How do you make this integrated with your headlight switch, how do you power them, and what kind of "kit" do I need to make it work? Sorry if you've explained this before but lighting/electrical is NOT my expertise.

Where would I find a DDM kit? Is that something that is OEM? Or is that a brand?

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
I checked out the website and found the Raptor kit you used. Can you tell me which of the options on the kit I will need to order?
The options are:
Wattage 35w or 55w
Bulb Type I was going to get the D2S, I think you said those work well
Bulb color I forget how the colors go, is the lowest number white, or is the highest number white?
HID Harness The only option is dual in, dual out?
Error code eliminator Probably thinking I don't need this one...?
Adaptor cables Only option is H1/H7 to 9006?

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
I didn't mean anything bad by
. Just figured the DDM name was known by now. My bad.
I haven't gotten my ballast kit yet. Still working on making the projectors physically fit & keep the flip-ups functional. No flush mounted housings for me.
I will go 55w.
Camaros will need the dual setup.
Higher #s are white, but not necessarily the whiter the better output. Stay under 5000k is you want the best light output.
No bar code than I know of for our cars.
I'm going DS1, but that is because the DS2 increase length by a little bit & I wanted the SHORTEST possible for my flip ups.
Drawing a blank on the cables, but 9006? Not sure ours are that.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
Can a D1S bulb fit in a projector that originally had a D2S bulb in it, and visa versa?
It's kind of hard to find a PAIR of projectors on ebay that are the right dimensions, most of the listings on ebay are for a single projector which would be pointless in this case.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
I may have found a set that has d2s bulbs and measures 6" front to back and the lense is 2 3/4" diameter. Think that extra 1/4" will make a big difference with fitment?

I would'nt go with 55w, projectors are designed for 35w systems & there are other reasons why the OEMs dont use 55w.As for ballast digital is nice & water proof.
2. color, 4300k-4500k, only if you want the best/brightest light.
3.Check again, dual harness is NOT the only one. There is universal harness.
4.Error code eli- is for BMW only.
5.Again, check the site, univ harness & D2S adapter are listed on the same page i believe.
Kit is $40
harness $20
D2S lamps$20
Adapters $20
Valeos are already hard to fit at about 5 7/8 & require the battery to be moved back to clear the lamp.
